What an awesome motor. Exactly what I was looking for a motor that is big enough to handle 1000-1100w but only needing a 4s pack. All other aeroplane motors in the 42mm size have too low a of kv to run 4s and need a 5s pack to reach over 1000w.
Only problem is this is more designed for a heli so the shaft needs to be reversed. I just hit it through carefully with a mallet and then put a small 5mm pinion gear on the other side to stop the shaft being pulled off the motor.
I tried this motor with a 4000mah 4s and 15x8 turnigy light prop but it was too much for the motor and was pulling about 1350w which I don't think would last long at that power but didn't try it. I moved down to a 14x8 prop which pulled about 1100w which seemed reasonable.
I have since flown it in my nemesis 1560mm from hk and it is brilliant. Motor comes down only slightly warm. I may try a 14x10 to see how hot the motor gets but pretty happy as it isTest run, found limits.
I got this motor, and set it up with and 80A ESC and 5S battery
turning a 14x6 prop.
I test ran a whole 20-25C battery through it no problems. (500mAh emptied in around 10 minutes.)
Set up to run my second battery (NanoTech 75-90C) using the same ESC, and the motor only lasted for about 30 seconds. The smoke came out and the motor stopped.
When it was running, the system was producing nearly 3.5-4kg of thrust, almost lifting the plane out of my hands vertically.... (Just not enough power for full 3D)
So this motor appears good for up to 4S (maybe) but it doesn't seem string enough for 5S power. Unfortunately there is no recommendation or documentation with this motor.
Tested this motor on 4s 5000mAh 25C with 100A ESC:
84A with 14x8 Carbon Folding Prop (non weave)
60A with 13x8 Carbon Folding Prop (non weave)
Becomes pretty warm but for a glider and a 30 second interval it should be ok.Bought two of them: The first broke after one minute, the second a ball bearing broke after 5 flights! Cheap motor but big quality problems!! The price for sending back to hk and the risk hk will reject the complain is to big...This motor has big power but has burnt at the second flight !!!! My setup : HobbyKing 190-200 Opto ESC, LiPo 4S 3000mAh, Turnigy 13x8 wood propeller...something about 950 Watts on my Kyosho Macchi M-33 seaplane.
Maybe I had bad luck ....or I must choose another kind of motor ?magnets bad glued, the magnets unglued in flight, my luck is possible a secure take off, or crash my fpv plane with all electronics, and the warranty, what I do ?salut , Avion style grosse caisse a voler de 2m d'envergure, moteur mont en propulsif avec apc 13x6 (non reverse) accu ZIPPY 5000mah , 50A au sol sur un banc de mesure feigao , a vole ! c'est pas un 3d faut travailler la drive ! mais a consomme: 10/15min de vol selon gestion des gaz ... je pense mettre 2lipo en // ou un gros 8000mah ya du plomd dans le nez vos mieux le remplacer par de l'accu, pour un coucou de 5.4kgr pour le moment ...Super Motor mit mehr als genug Leistung. Habe ihn in meiner 3,12m eigenbau Astir CS mit knapp 4 kg verbaut und diese wird richtig flott hochgezogen.
In Kombination mit dem Turnigy Brushless ESC 85A w/ 5A SBEC Regler sollte man aber unbedingt einen guten Akku haben, der mehr als 30C zulsst.Disaster!!!!
