Not just for ground vehicles!
I put a set on my X650 Quad to set it apart. Looks cool! I shortened the wires and tied it into a Turnigy navigation light module. Hobbyking has a similar set up for ground vehicles. But those who want to run them straight off a BEC can solder in a 75 - 100 ohm 25pcnt resister on the positive side to reduce the 5 volts down to a more manageable 3.5 volts.
Don't think of soldering as a pain in the butt. It's a fun skill that frees you and the hobby up for all sorts of electrical design possibilities.

its nice, easy to build (use super or plastic glue) and easy to mount, the lights are bright enough for normal use, but i recommend to build a roll bar over it, or mount it on a car that does not flip ;)
