Surprisingly awesome

Nov 24, 2017

I am considering buying a second one... so tiny, so awesome.
only gripes is the default file it comes with is tall and printed on a raft so it will never ever have a chance of sticking to any buildsurface, and the printer has some z wobble. Probably fixable with a helical shaft coupling.
The build surface is working out really well. I am used to PVA on glass. this is much less messy!
I plan to upgrade to e3d and duet electronics.... but it prints out of the box so I haven't done any of that yet!
I have been impressed by the power supply also. Really this thing is legit.

My first week with the Fabrikator V2

Apr 14, 2017

I have two 3D printers already,so I'm used to the trial and error that's involved in setting one up. This one was no different. If there is such a thing and an out of the box ready to go 3D printer, I haven't found it yet, but this one was very close. This printer is very solid and well built, but the bed had to be leveled and I have to do some tweaking on the Start and End G-codes to get it to print correctly. The guide tube is nice and does a good job, also the spool on the back is very convenient, although with a full roll it feels like it wouldn't' take much effort for the printer to want to tilt backwards. Also, after a few prints I decided to install a glass plate on the bed, as I have done with my other printers, which makes it much easier to remove a print and go on to the next one without having to constantly keep changing out the Blue Tape. Since this printer doesn't have an adjustable Z-stop screw, I had to design, print up, and install a shim the same thickness as the glass, right above where the Z-stop switch strikes the Z-carriage. Now, a little shot of hairspray and I'm ready to print. Also, I got a few 4"x4" glass squares cut by my local hardware store and I can just un-clip the glass plate and put a new one on to keep printing. Due to clearance between the moving bed and the lower frame, I had to use the smallest binder clip available. I haven't tried printing from the SD card or from Wifi yet. It's a nice little compact printer and anyone that is familiar with using Repetier should have no problem getting it going. I will try to upload the G-codes that I used for anyone that might need them.
