Photo resistors, also known as Light Dependent Resistors (LDR) are light sensitive devices usually used to indicate the presence or absence of light. In the dark their resistance is very high but when exposed to light the resistance drops dramatically. They are widely used in camera's, solar lights, detectors and a variety of light controlled devices.
The Keyes KY-018 photo resistor is a semiconductor photosensitive device. it features a high sensitivity and fast response with spectral characteristics that have a good consistency of "r" value. It is also very reliable in high temperatures and harsh enviromental conditions which makes it ideal for outside conditions.
According to the spectral characteristics of the photo resistor it has 3 photoresistors, ultraviolet photosensitive resistance, infrared light sensitive resistors and visible photosensitive resistance.
The module consists of a photoresistor and a 10kΩ in-line resistor. The photoresistors resistance will decrease in the presence of light and increase in the absence of it. The output is analog and determines the intensity of the light. It allows for easy sensing of light levels from within your Kingduino/Arduino controller, just connect GND and VCC to the module and a varying voltage (depending on light levels) is available on the 3rd pin.
