A report out of Jackson Springs in the United States has revealed that a DJI Matrice 210 drone has successfully located the whereabouts of a missing 11-year-old girl near her home.
After the police spent hours searching for the child, the drone, which was operated by a Sheriff, was able to find the missing girl using infrared, which can see 'heat images'. She was found in the woods sleeping under a tree. In a statement to the press, Sheriff Neil Godfrey says “ This is a perfect example of why we invested in this drone capability. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is doing everything we can to ensure that we are using technology to benefit the safety of our citizens as well as our deputies.” Not only was this drone purchased by the Sheriff’s department to locate missing persons but it was also bought with the intention to be able to evaluate hostile situations such as shootings, hostage situations, and explosive devices. It can also be used for crime scene photography.
