These are crap! I thought I'd give them a shot since the normal EC5 weren't in stock. They are relatively easy to solder, but they will not snap into place without using something like a hammer to bump them in. So you might get one side forcibly in, but now you have to pound the other side in. I almost got it, but when I bumped it using a small hex wrench and hammer, the ends somehow touched, and POW! A large flash that melted the brass EC5 connector taking a rather large chunk out of it. The positive wire insulation blackened and melted. I cut off the partially done connector and put on a real EC5. Don't buy these.
I've soldered many of EC5 connectors, but won't even think of using the other two bags of these that I have.THE NEW ONES I RECIEVED ARE DEFECTIVE. IT IS IMPOSSABLE TO INSERT THE BRASS
INTO THE PLASTIC,EVEN WITH NO WIRE ATACHED.I HAVE USED EC5 MANY TIMES IN
THE PAST WITH NO PROBLEMSI haven't bought these for a few years. Got some new Heavy duty batteries and ordered these (as its my standard plug set for larger batteries).
Very disappointed as HK have changed the design - to the detriment of the product unfortunately.
The old style had a full "cup" for soldering to. You simply support the bullet in a pair of pliers (with an elastic on the handles) to hold it upright. Heat the bullet with a heavy iron, and dip a stripped wire into the molten solder. Let it set for a few seconds, then remove it. Done. Easy. While its warm push it into the blue casing.
The new style - well, no cup to hold the solder, I tried a few times clamping the bits together and finally got one "OK" - it would not go into the casing.
PLEASE PLEASE restore the old style bullets.
Luckily I kept the old ones from my 5 year old dead batteries (nice run with rhinos )
