A really fun plane

Mar 26, 2017

When I purchased the plane it came with significantly warped ailerons however HK promptly send a replacement under warranty. I have been really happy with way the plane flies all inputs react predictably and precisely however it has been ripped apart many times with awkward landings and whoopsies mainly on windy days - yes it does fly OK in wind. It certainly is not as resilient to damage as I was led to believe. The undercarriage ripped off quickly during a simple landing on rough ground and the whole front of the plane has been ripped off twice. It does lack torsional rigidity but the EPP glued easily with Sikabond gap filling polyurethane glue and it was back in the air quickly. One thing I did do after the front ripped off was to cut the cowling away so that the plywood was flush. I then glued a slightly stronger piece of plywood which covered the ends of the foam allowing a large glueing area. The motor sits proud now but it flies the same. I am using a turnigy 2S 1.0 graphene 65C which is calm and docile then I switch to a graphene 3S 45C and it hoots I am getting around 9 Minutes with the 3S battery.. Setting the plane up with correct trim is important and I found the CG spot on as in the instructions. I will post an image of the battered plane with the new engine mount. Yes I would buy another one of these without question.

Great First RC Plane.

Mar 01, 2017

Survived my maiden flight of the Tuff Trainer II. It is all it is advertised to be. A Tuff Trainer. I did have one pretty bad crash and other than a broken prop it came home in one piece. It is always a good idea to have a experienced flyer to help you set it up and get the trim correct. I did enjoy flying the Tuff Trainer. It may not be there prettiest plan on the field, but it will take a hit and keeps on flying. I did notice that the paint on mine was not very good and smeared in several places. Thanks HobbyKing for getting me back in the air. I put a video on the video tab. I'm sure you will get a laugh out of some of my first attempts. Enjoy and safe flying. So what's next? A war bird? LOL.

A must have great flyer

Dec 04, 2016

This model is very gentle and very forgiving.
It has got A LOT OF power with the stock GWS 9050 prop.
It's very capable of doing some acrobatics and even some 3D.
So far the only thing I don't like about it is the ESC gets too hot to touch after a flight.
For around $100, this is great value for money.

Funny plane with a good flight, very handy
Unfortunately, mine broke the wings in 2 parts during a low wind flight, then crashed and totaly destroyed. So i am laughing when i hear hobby king boys saying that this plane is undestructible !
Very poor quality and very destructible plane

Flew rc 29 years ago!! On a futaba 5lk, just getting into hobby again. Bought the tuff 2 and futaba t6k, love it. No mess just loads of batteries and your flying. After a couple of shaky flights on the local field I've settle down and it's like I never had a break. It flies well and handles the wind ok but just be sensible. Had prob 20 flights with it now and I like it. Very forgiving. I fly with 1100 and 1500 mah batteries but I thinK the cg would suit 1300mah.

Very funny plane but low quality
Wings broken in 2 parts, plane crashed and totaly destroyed during a flight with very nice weather conditions.
Don't think this plane deserve the quality of "undestructible" !!!

A bit of background on my experience. I have been flying a scratch built foam board 3 channel plane for the last few months with success so I have the basics down pat. Now to the review. The bad: Plane turned up with one of the battery door handles broken from transit and the motor was waaaay out of alignment. HK wanted me to return this at my cost to get a (maybe better?) replacement so it wasn't worth my time/cash. I just shimmed out the motor and re-glued the handle. The Good: Assembly was as simple as the videos make it out to be. Everything was trimmed pretty good.

Flight: I would call this a very neutral, easy to fly plane. If everything is adjusted square and correctly the plane floats along at 1/3 throttle. If the pilot flies within their means, has rates set nice and gentle and uses an area with plenty of room I see no worries to be had. The plane did have a bad stall tendency at low throttle but I think this was more due to my CG being a little far back. Running 75mm behind Leading Edge with a 1300mah 3s.

I haven't had a chance to test how Tuff the plane is as I haven't had a bad flight after 2 batteries and 12 or so landings.

4 out of 5 due to delivered state of plane / return policy.

Not "TUFF" at all. First maiden flight crash at 3 meter height onto grass. The wing broken into 2 and front part of the fuselage damaged too. The EPP foam is poor quality type.

This is one fantastic plane. It has plenty of power and very easy to fly. The size of the plane is perfect, I can take the wings apart in seconds and fit into my small car. I had mine crashed so hard and I glued them back together and it still flies brilliantly on the next day. I have also put GPS flight controller and FPV gear on it now and I have so much fun with this sweet FPV platform!
