Great Value SCT

Nov 28, 2018

I have always loved the look of SCT's, so decided to pick this up with an HK 2 channel radio. I was impressed with the quality, and the size of the truck itself - almost more of a 1/8 size than a 1/10. Running on 2S, it's a bit slow, and I found myself holding the throttle flat knacker, wanting it to go faster. But plug a 3S in, and it's a much better match for power and speed. I only got to run it for a couple of minutes, when I gave my 9 y.o. a go, and he he ran it into a drain, and busted an front A-arm on me! I had replacement parts on hand at home, and it was a pretty quick fix, and spares are CHEAP! If you grab one, definitely get a few sets of A-arms, upper and lower A-arm pins, some dog bones, etc. I even splashed out and grabbed a couple of complete gearboxes. Only downside I have come across on the truck is that it understeers something shocking when under power on hard surfaces. I softened up the front suspension, and stiffened the back, and this helped it a bit. I also replaced the steering servo with a TowerPro metal gear unit, and used a slightly longer servo horn to get a little extra steering throw. All in all I am VERY happy with this truck, I only wish I had picked it up on sale, like it is at the moment!

Great starter car but backorder spares seriously lets us down

Feb 24, 2018

Love this car but lost a dog bone and has been on backorder forever. A very commonly needed part. Please HobbyKing get your spare parts in order. I can't use my car if I can't get spare parts. :-(

Cool stuff

Feb 18, 2018

An awesome SCT for less money. It needs a small checkout bevor you doing your first run. With 3S a really cool vehicle. Buy it and have fun.

Nice buy - a lot of fun

Oct 24, 2017

Bought a 2nd one recently in order to have a full set of spare parts. Dont want to wait a month per spare part order from CN Warehouse. However - out of the box, the dampers need an overhaul (2 out of 4 empty, 2 half filled, 1 without rubber inlay), the front dogbones should be replaced with CVD versions directly out of box or you should order stock dog bones as replacement right with your car - as i´ve lost a bunch of them while bashing gravel. Apart from that - technically a wonderfull car for ambitious beginners like me as a Base for FPV. ESC and Motor did not heat up even in Summer conditions and 3 batts in a raw driven real fast and hard. Custom bodies like the desert raid for the slash do fit nicely - with a little impro when it comes to the mounts (DIY markets have all you will need in store).
Driving this thing (FPV) is awesome. Feeling most comfortable with forest trails, plane sand and light gravel - you will see nice drifts and a behavior like a overpowered truck (or in my customized version - like a SUV). Dirt and Mud is splashing away when you hit the trigger to full throttle, acceleration is very good. Could have some more top speed, however it is sufficient to have fun, and be honest, curves are more fun than straigt lines. If you manage to maintain the schocks properly, and set the suspension fitting to the needs of your track - you will have a wonderfull time with this little piece of joy.
Last but not least: even heavy impacts (frontal) on ... e.g. trash bins to not damage the car.
I do like my "Troopaa" and won´t change.

After open race day at club

Oct 16, 2017

Now I have had her on the sand track and against other cars ... on 3S it proved to be competitive as long as no long straits for speed. Manoeuvrability - it needs a touch more steering throw, but the car is well balanced and handles well. Its lack of outright speed allows you a better throttle range to run a winding track. It was up against Basher Sabres, Berserkers etc. and it ran well .... a good driver would actually place in a race.
One shock absorber bottom seal came undone - all oil escaped and shock shaft had slight bend. I screwed cap back and hardened up suspension all round ... she ran as if nothing wrong with that shock.
The wishbone front arms finally broke left front ... along with the bottom pin with clips. Something I do not understand - HK sell replacement pins but without the C clips !! To be honest - top and bottom pins would be better if through bolts + nuts instead of the pins. 3 x 55mm bolts suit. Also top shock attachment .. I think eventually I will have nut and bolt there as threaded into plastic is sure to fail after a while.
Shock oil is too thin if you are serious driver.
But - I am very happy with the car ... I was an Indoor Electric Car guy nack in the 80 - 90'
s ... but this off-road stuff is great fun. Our club is based on Rc Flying - but recently added cars to the mix ...

Very good starter off-roader

Oct 12, 2017

Received it in good condition. No damage at all.
Manual and car are not exactly same as the manual is for the RTR version and has different ESC / On-off Switch / Set switch.
Manual says 2 - 3 Cell Li-- ..... what does that mean ? LiPo or Life ? Two are completely different in voltage. 3S LiFe will give me 10.8V instead of 12.6V with LiPo ... and 8.4V on 2S LiPo .... hopefully ESC and motor will live well with LiFe 3S.
Running on 2S LiPo - car is on the slow side but manoeuvrability is good. Shocks out of box are bit on the soft side - but she ran well on road and grass.
The tyres show a lot of grip.
Overall I like the car - but want to get a bit more speed out of it ...
I'm running it with FS GT2E pistol radio and Hobby King 3ch AFDS-a Rx.
Only complaint really - I had to go buy kitchen brushes specially to clean it after a grass run ! It had crud everywhere inside and all over !

Very slow rc car

Sep 30, 2017

Overall it's a great 1:10 sct rc car. Though it's seriously underpowered with the low kv rating of the brushless motor. Tried running it on a 2s lipo and max speed I got was 21mph on my gps speedometer on 3s I squeezed it to 28mph. I'm ordering a new 3650 brushless motor of 3900kv that should give it some nice speed vs torque and bring out the true value of the car. Another minor is the central differential with the motor gear is completely exposed to the elements so will need regular cleaning if running in wet grass n mud.
