I bought this just for the h.ck of it, wanted to reuse some electronics I had laying around from a Mini MIG-15 wreck (fan, motor and servo rods). Had to do some serious enlarging of the air duct to get the motor in (less than optimal duct resulted). Used regular HK15178 servos, R610 RX, Nano-Tech 3S 1300mAh battery, 30A DLUX ESC. In the end, it got very heavy, AUW 284g instead of the 155g that the manual speaks of. I guess it goes without saying, but it never got into the air, I tried all ways I could think of to throw it but no luck. Maybe with a landing gear and a sufficiently long runway it would have taken off... :-) To be fair, the way I set it up was just not right. With these small models every gram counts, so make sure to shave off all dead weight you can (and use gear appropriate for the plane). Still, had some fun, kit's not bad at all.

The Phoenix is awesome!! I'm going to add another one to my next HK order!!

I'm currently clocking mine at 77mph on 4s and it flies like it's on rails!

I got rid of the wingtips and reduced the intake and exhaust a bit. CG is 10-15mm in front of the finger grip dents.

ARC-20-34-2 (ARC 130) Motor (in a BIM shroud - check RCGroups)
AEORC 8-blade fan
20A ESC
Turnigy nano-tech 850mAh 4S 45~90C

Very solid setup as the ARC has a 2mm shaft, so the AEORC adapter can be used with the 40mm fan.

Hi guys,

I just received this model a couple days ago. The fit and finish of the foam pieces is fine. Nice decal sheet. The rudder foam is a bit rough, might try to smooth is down some..the rest of the foam is smooth. The parts are strong enough for what they are, not too thin anywhere. My ELE 40mm fan fits perfectly in the grooved slots. The 2.5g servos fit in pockets just back of the finger hold pockets.

One interesting thing on mine: The front canard airfoils were cleanly cutoff. Just the outline of them shows on the side of the fuselage? They are not included in the package. I don't know what this means...mistake? Design change?

I haven't had a calm enough day to fly it yet. I suspect the CG will be critical, so expect some time spent tweaking it.

Nice small plane to keep with you ready to go anytime. Easy, fast build, and looks sleek. Good purchase if the maiden flies like I expect it will! Will post more when I have it.................
