Nice plane but needs some work.

Nov 20, 2017

My plane came with a slight color difference on the underside of the wings left and right. Not a real big deal but not perfect either. Yes, it is difficult to see at a distance and needs to flown at all times. Hands off flying not a reality. The ball links are VERY tight. The motor could have been a higher KV to give the plane more speed. Maybe I will try a five cell battery and change the esc to 60 amp before swapping the motor for something faster. The retracts have worked so far. The PCB board just needs hot glue to protect the fragile wires. Also, it would have been nice if the leads from the servos were a bit longer(an inch/2.5cm) making the PCB board connections easier. The prop assembly is rather heavy which hinders the speed of the motor I'm sure. You don't need much aileron movement, but, for landing, I like full elevator, so, my low rates keep most of the elevator throw while the ailerons are set at about 35-40%. I mixed 12% down with the flaps at full throw, and that seems to keep the nose from coming up.(ballooning) I, too, had to trim the underside of the cockpit to get the 2200 40c 4S battery to fit. I think the CG is fine, but it can't be achieved with the battery I am using placed on the tray provided in the plane. The battery has been moved at least 3inches/7.5cm forward. All in all, a nice plane. It has smooth foam, a realistic color scheme (military), and everything is working, unlike others who have had retract problems. On sale, it was a very good deal.

I have all the Avios planes and they all fly very nicely. The Yaks are the best as they are lighter. Flys great on just a 4 cell 2200 pack (anything larger will not fit anyway)
The retracts have held up well on my grass runway but good landings are required.
It is also possible to land with the gear up and the wheels are able to still rotate in that position. The yaks have awesome power with the stock prop. I agree with all the quality issues but when you know what to expect it is easy to customize a little. The tight ball links just need a slgiht shaving with an exacto to clean them up. I was able to use the pcb board connection without too much difficulty.

Not a beginner model, needed some extra glue on the ailerons. nose retract easily damaged. Recommended battery requires trimming of underside of cockpit. Flies well but hard to see which is the point of the camouflage.

I'm very happy with this purchase, but that requires some explaining. I got it on a very good sale, slightly over 100, so that made the time spent modifying it worth while. It has a few issues you MUST CORRECT before flying. 1) The aileron hinges are not glued in properly. Pull them out and re-glue them. 2) The canopy tends to pop out in flight. Use the magnets provided for the cowl, and add them to the canopy. (You do not need the magnets in the cowl.) 3) Some retracts are unreliable, so test well before flying. Mine happen to work just fine. (They are noisy.) 4) The wing wiring connect board is crap. Do not use it. Buy some servo splitter wires and use them instead. It will require four, I think. They do not need to be very long. 4) Lastly, it is NOT POSSIBLE to achieve proper CG with the battery in the designed location. NO NOT FLY with the battery there. Instead, move the wires and the receiver to the battery area (over the wing), and move the battery forward. Cut some foam. I also cut out the plywood battery deck, and make a new battery deck forward. (I'll take a picture of mine and put it in the files.) Do these things and you will have a VERY NICE flying plane. Good luck.

Really nice looking model and seems well thought out - the cowl removes easily to reveal the motor and the scheme shows off the lines well and is well applied. there is room for more scale size wheels so another plus

have now fallen in love with this plane having had to replace the nose gear after 5 flights as it just stopped working. Luckily landing gear was half price and a very simple swap out/in. Replacement has performed flawlessly over last 20 flights and original mains still going strong. Great performance out of the box with 40C 2200 4S, takes of nicely with one stage of flap and floats in sweetly to land with full flap but keep alittle power on until the flare and touch down on the mains first to protect the nose gear. Great all round flyer for sport, aerobatic or scale flying - well done Avios.

A missed opportunity. Great looking plane with too many flaws. Mine has most of the problems mentioned on other forums. Retract problems, Wing halves are different shades of blue and look stained, Aileron hinges all loose requiring the removal and re-gluing of the wooden hinge pins (dangerous). Yet the plane still looks good when together and with a suitable pilot added to the nice canopy. Such a shame that the quality control is awful in my case. Hobbyking customer service have asked me to send the problem parts back but I can't really be bothered as the wings are not in stock and the retracts are poor anyway. Will just fly as is.

What an outstanding little plane. Very simple assembly. I usually modify most planes, including ARF's and PNF's, at least a little bit, but the only mods this one needed belong to my own wiring choices. Fly's brilliantly out of the box. Nice work Avios.

Nice alternative to the one with the Hobby King logo all over it.
