GAS is the way to go with 1:5 scale, if you want an electric
buy the kit and just resell the motor and have it go towards your electric conversion which costs about 400$.

you get way more play time with gas then you will with electric
unless you plan on spending 400$ for lipo's for a good amount of fun time.

Nitro costs more and also nitro motors dont last long so how i see it this 1/5 baja is WIN! WIN! the way it is..

HPI and Rovan Compared

I have 1 HPI Baja 5t and 2 Rovan 5b's (260 & 260s). I got the Rovan 260s for friends and family to join me when where out camping in the desert as it's a lot more fun with a couple racing around. The other cheaper 260 is a parts rig that also runs but if something goes wrong with the good cars
the parts comes off the Rovan 260.
If your looking at getting a Baja 5 and If funds are an issue then the Rovan wins but remember you get what you pay for.
The Rovan 260s has a better diff then the 260 and the 260s has better parts like a tuned pipe, sway bars and better rear shock mount. worth the $40 extra dollars from the 260. Engines seem to be the same as HPI Chang Yang engine but there stamped Rovan. They are 2 bolt heads just like HPI's CY.
HPI is better and stronger as far as plastic parts and fitting goes but I've learned most plastic on either Baja will sooner or later need to be replaced with aluminum if you want to run and not fix/repair. The clutch, clutch bell, and clutch bearing holder/carrier are the weak links on the Rovan when compared but even the Hpi will need replacing later on. I got 10 tanks before issues with HPI Baja 5t compared to Rovan 3 tanks and the clutch was done on both Rovans. So you can get a Rovan and spend $200-$300 on HPI or hopped up parts fixing the issues...or.... get the HPI and go longer before needing to replace some o

I give it low marks due to receiving an open boxed item from Hobbyking and missing a shock retainer part. Looks like a cool 1/5 but still cannot run it until the part which they have still not sent me after over a month. Crappy customer service for sure, no speed or help from them. I will never buy another high $$$ item from here again only lipos. You guys lost a high end buyer for sure on this one. I had a few others wanting one of these. Better quality control on your part would help a ton!

A 1/5 scale has always caught my eye and when I seen the price of this one I jumped in and ordered one. Received within a week and had it up and running in just about an hour after installing receiver and the servos and had to do some minor carburetor adjustment due to cold weather. Very durable, took a couple of hard tumbles when I was out bashing and it just kept going with no damage. Ordered the metal cage bars and have my eye on some other extras. A video has been posted

Ok ive had this about 3 weeks now and got the turnigy servos for it the other day. Briefly went over the car checking, tightening etc. I will say for the money it is a steal of a deal. Everyone who has seen it says the same thing. Wow..

Ill admit i sat on the fence for a long time before i pulled the trigger. But i did my research and all roads led me back here to the rovan. I have a friend who has a Km brand and another who has a Fs racing brand, and neither compare to this one.

2 tanks threw it and no problems, downloaded the hpi book for it, set the carb back to stock and it fired up on 3rd pull. Always starts on first or second pull, and it runs like a scalded dog. Im sure there will be some problems down the road, but there always are with this kind of stuff. Ive
been running cars for 30 years, have several brushless slashs, buggies etc
and loads of friends who have all diff. kinds of gassers. I could not see paying 4 or 5 bills for a little nitro car, when this is the same price. But i
guess it is all about what you want and every one wants something diff.

The diff. in mine seems rather loose so may could use some more oil in it.
I have read where a lot of times these come with not a lot of oil in there. I have priced the parts for this, and they are as cheap or as expensive as you want to go, cause everybody makes parts for it. Now is the quality as good as hpi,
