I think there must be improved version of HobbyKing6 in 1 machine tool. I strongly believe HK will bring similar machine which is "8 in 3" on many chinese websites. I think the dissatisfation was due to comparation of this machine with commercial sized/grade machine, but we have to accept this is just a hobby machine tool, just like scale model of the lethplusdrill....

Assembled it (as a lathe) and cut my first venturi this evening. The instructions are OK, but terse. The main problem with the thing is the bits and pieces don't stay in alignment. The headstock (where the chuck is) keeps moving in the bed, giving you tapered pieces. You can tell this is Chinese-made, not German - the chuck had a bump in the molding (I'll post a photo if I can) that I had to file off before it would turn - it would jam up against the bed otherwise. Fortunately, or unfortunately as the case may be, it was very easy to file off - the chuck looks like it's made out of pot metal castings. The cutting tool is slightly above center as built, they say to shim it up if it's below center, but I'll have to raise the other parts instead. Maybe some very fine sandpaper between the bed and head and tailstocks will fix this problem as well as the stiffness issue. It's got plenty of power to turn Delrin. One major problem I was dreading was boring the hole through the rod stock, no problem at all. I used the 6mm collet to chuck a drillbit in the tailstock, came out nice and centered.

ignore my earlier review, it didn't retain the 'crowns' I had selected.
First, let me say, this is the first product that I've ever bought from Hobby king that I am not happy with (I've been buying from them for at least 5 years). While I wasn't expecting a top quality, high precision product, I was at least expecting a product that would work.
The first issue I ran into was with the knobs that are used to adjust the slide tables. The knobs are soft plastic and held in place with a spring clip in a very shallow groove. The first time I turned the knobs on the slide tables, they were so tight that the spring clips stripped out of the grooves in the knobs. The basically ruined the knobs. The second issue I had was with the toothed belt that is used to connect the drive motor to the spindle. The belt was much too big, there ws no way possible to adjust the motor enough to make the belt work. When I cantacted HK about the problem with the belt, I sent them pictures that clearly showed the belt was too big, expecting them to send me a new belt. Wrong! They wanted me to ship the ENTIRE set back to them. Really? They want me to spend $40US to ship it back to them for a $5 part? This it terrible customer service in my opinion. The third problem I found is that the chuck/jaws use to hold objects for turning is BADLY out of center. I inserted a motor shaft into the chuck. With the shaft

I purchased this machine originally in August 2012. The overall quality is what can be expected at this price. What I have found by reading the reviews and discussions, is that some people expect too much from the machine. It is designed for small model making. Given enough practise and setting the machines up a couple of times, great results can be obtained. Please see my photos under the files tab for two recently completed model cars made with only the Hobbyking machine. I expect to have further models made in the near future. This machine is great if you are able to provide some patience, practice and care. The cuts are better if the machine is mounted down as recommended in the hand book provided. Enjoy many hours of fun model building.

Unit looks good and should work fine for what it is designed for-model building. The tailstock center does line up with the chuck center and only slight shimming was required to raise the tool to the centerline in order to do some light turning. I plan on using the tool on plastic (acetal/Torlon) and light aluminum for making a few parts like stand-offs and ignition conversion pieces. I will report later on results..BTW- worked well on the supplied wood dowels.

This little machine is great ! I saw all the reviews from everywhere and began thinking I just bought 2 orders of plastic chunks of crap, but when it arrived i quickly realized i found a great deal with this. I had ordered the brushless motor and simple servo tester along with the orders to have as an upgrade when i'm ready but so far have not needed it yet. I've set up the wood lathe, sander, jig saw and milling machine, sharpened my tools and tried the different setups for holding the work pieces. I have no parts missing, the beds are metal, have no problem putting the pieces together so things stay solid while working and can make mini wine glasses out of wood in no time. If others are having problems (other than missing parts) getting the setups correct they just need to have a closer look at the small parts and see how they go together in order to have a usefull and fun tool around the work shop. For the price there is nothing in the world that matches this. Of course for absolute accuracy this may not be the best choice but once you get it figured out and with a little patience its a whole lot of fun. HK has done a great job with this affordable 6 in 1 tool.

My intention was to build models not to spend hours just to switch from one tool to another. Going from one tooling to another is very time consuming due to bad design. I might choose one tool and trash the rest, not to mention parts were missing. Just buy a small cnc you are better off, i just lost 100bucks towards it.
