I made a comparison between methods which suggests that the unit provides reasonably reliable measurements. Since I started rewinding motors I found the need for a quick and reasonably accurate kV measuring.
Until now I have been using a Turnigy 7 in 1 Mega meter to read voltage and current under load and a Turnigy tachometer to measure rpms in order to calculate the kV. The major issue is getting steady and reliable rpm readings when using artificial light (readings are perfect at daylight). It is also a pain to mark or put tape on some motors for readings.
I have just rewound a NTM4258 and took the opportunity to compare both methods:

Mega meter tachometer data (at 100pcnt throttle):
No load voltage: 23.04V
No load current: 4.87A
Speed: 12120-12180rpm
Calculated kV: 526-528

HK K1 RPM-kV Meter
530kV

I can say that it was definitely quicker with the HK K1 meter, really worth the investment

Great little low cost, easy to use tool fo checking motor KV ratings. A servo type connection plugs into the unit and on the other end are alligator clips. The red and black clips attach to the ESC input battery power (min Lipos 3S or external battery power also required for unit run), and the other connects to one of the 3 motor to ESC connectors. I just slightly pulled apart the bullet connectors to attach the alligator clips. Then select the number poles on the motor (bottom button) and throttle up to max to obtain the max KV read out. I can't say how accurate it is but the readings were in the range as stated for the motors. I suspected one of the motors on my multirotor was the wrong KV value and this unit confirmed it. I tried using a tachometer to check the KV at first but that was inconclusive. Recommended.

I am an old customer of HK. The quality was always perfect. Only this item is not working correct. By checking the same motor with a brake of one minute it shows different results. The motor has 1050KV. It shows the range of 950 - 1150.
Some times it is moving up & down.
Never mind.
Sorry, I made a mistake by setting the crowns. It is the first time that I made a review.

The manual delivered is a little bit confusing to me because you have to set the number of magnet pairs instead of poles as usual. But all in all it seems to be accurate. I will do some more teesting in the near future.
