Grest little plane

Nov 22, 2016

Bought 2 of these, built one with lots of lightening holes and wing built without planking the front except the center portion. Using the Orange rx with gyro. The plane is my goto plane and everyone in the flying field was impressed when they see the little stik ROG and land slowly and gracefully. HK, please bring this back to the International warehouse. I need a few of these to make up a biplane and a trimotor

I bought this years ago to make up the weight in a parcel. And for years it gathered dust. But not any more. The almost total lack of instructions makes it more a jigsaw puzzle than a flying model kit. But go slowly and you will love it. The Laser cutting is Fab. Build on a rock solid flat board. I note comments about the cofg. I have not flown mine yet and I am guessing 20-25pcnt aft of the LE. (25pcnt is on the spar and that's traditional, should be a good starting point. I have really loved the build using super glue everywhere. The 4 push out pieces from the tailplane make great wheels. 2 for each wheel with opposing grains. There should be more like this !!!

awesome kit all the wood was cut perfectly. but the instructions on how to build it were very bland. "build the wing" well if you were in-experienced you'd think how am i supposed to build the wing?...yeah that part of the kit could use some work but the wood work itself well worth it for the money!

One of the funniest planes in my collection :) This plane i use for my everyday flying. Many people have been impressed over this little plane. I use Turnigy SK3 2118-3100kv motor SKU: SK3-2118-3100 mounted on the outside on the front. A GWS 5043 prop SKU: GWS-DD-5043, and a Turnigy Plush 10 amp ESC SKU: TR_P10A. I bought a fitting Lipo with 500 mAh from my local store but this will do the trick: Zippy 2 cell SKU: Z5002S20C. With this combo the CG should be perfect and the plane goes like a rocket and straight up if you want, but its forgiven too if you slow down the throttle. I use 30pcnt exponential on the transmitter for more feeling with the movement.
I used regular white wood glue for assembly and red, white and black Oracover for covering. I also use carbonfiber landing gear SKU: OR032-00101 for lightweight, stronger and a nice look. The small foamwheels is SKU: OR006-01003. Look at the files section and select "MiniStick, hansest" for the build results of this plane

Very good laser cut quality, wood pieces very nice.

Cons: No plans. no problem for my 30 years building balsa models, but this is not a kit for someone who has'nt built a kit before.

HK, it would be nice to inchude the building plan in the kit.

One of the funniest planes i have :) This plane i use for my everyday flying on a football field nearby. In this plane i use Turnigy SK3 2118-3100kv motor http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18112__Turnigy_Aerodrive_SK3_2118_3100kv_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html mounted on the outside on the front. A GWS 5043 prop http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__10034__GWS_EP_Propeller_DD_5043_125x110mm_6pcs_set_.html and a Turnigy Plush 10 amp ESC http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__4204__TURNIGY_Plush_10amp_9gram_Speed_Controller.html. I bought a Lipo from my local store but this i think are a suitable one http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__6788__ZIPPY_Flightmax_500mAh_2S1P_20C.html. With this combo the CG is perfect and the plane goes like a rocket and straight up if you want!
I used regular white wood glue for assembly and Oracover for covering included the iron crosses i cutted out from templates. I also use carbonfiber landing gear http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__4502__Carbon_Fiber_Landing_Gear_100mm.html?strSearch=or032-00101 for a lightweight and a nice look. Also i used a pair of small foamwheels http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9858__Small_Wheel_Diam_20mm_Width_10mm_5pc_Bag_.html, on wheel axles i used a carbon rod. Picture of this plane can be seen under files section named MiniStick, hansest

First, where is the CG supposed to be? The (and I use the term loosely) "instructions" that come in the package on an obvious KIT are for assembling the ARF! An even then, the CG shows as being right at the back edge of the wing sheeting (30 mm) but SAYS 100mm (just short of 4") measured from the leading edge of the wing. Now since the wing chord is just about 5.25" wide I find this impossible.

When it came time to balance, I used the old school of 1/3 of the wing chord back from the leading edge, which works out to almost 45mm. I wondered why the darn thing porposed all over the place...grossly tail-heavy.

So now I'll balance at 30-ish mm and test fly again.

I've also jacked up the manufacturer about the lack of instructions and plans - actually got a response of "Really? We'll look into that". Sure.

A fun an educational build, without all the hassle of cutting balsa sheet like in the old days.

Supplied lasercut balsa was good quality, and the build went relatively easy for a newbie like me. Instruction sheet was hard to read (old eyes), thank God someone has been nice enough to upload an easy to read scan in the files section. : )

C10 motor suites this plane well, and it is a gentle flyer. CG is spot on with a 400mA 2S, and it sustaines level flight at 1/3 throttle or so.

Uploaded a few pics of my new pup in the files section.
