Ridge Rider + & -

Jul 15, 2018

Received the wing in perfect condition. It will glide/ float easily. It is a thin delicate wing so starting with the bottom I sprayed aerosol glue & covered the entire wing with 2" wide nylon strapping tape. This made it considerably more durable. I went ahead & fabricated a motor mount & installed a "Racestar" 1800kv motor , 2200ma 2 cell lipo running an 7/4 prop. Flies fine. If you want to run a motor consider trimming out left & right first. I found the CG point on my wing to be 1/2". 11mm forward of the point listed on the instructions other wise I had problems with it wanting to snap roll. Once trimmed it flew fine. I consider the price of $55 to be a bit steep now that I have received & seen it. There are far better values for a wing of this size.

TOTALLY love this plane, flew it a few times as slope soarer, you can literally stay up forever in a decent breeze. Now chucked a mini motor 5" prop 10a esc and 1300 3s. Must be same factory as Wingnetic as similar high quality all round. So good, absolutely throw it around though pull too hard on the loop and it literally flips on the spot. So cool. About 30 mins on the 1300, would prefer less weight but needed that to balance motor. FPV next adventure. And all this for $26!

Arrived well packed but one wing tip slightly bent. I used hot water to persuade it back into shape. One servo wasn't centred so I had to cut a small piece of wing away to access the screw on the horn. I glued this back, covered with a sticker its not visible. Both ailerons are slightly warped down at the tips. I'll see how it flies before I attempt to straighten them. I'm guessing it will be OK. I used a 5 cell AAA Nimh rx pack at the front of the equipment bay with a small 4ch rx behind. I needed 10g in the nose to get the recommended c of g. Didn't take long to put together and looks great :-)

Maiden flight today in winds gusting over 50 mph. Ballast tubes full and an extra 50g added. Flew very well for such a light weight model. Check out the video on YT under "heady2008" titled HK Ridge Ryder and..."

Pretty Good wing to start with. Im new to Sloaping. i beat this one up pretty good and finally had to order a second. The second one has many assembly flaws. I have been trying to contact HK to resolve the issue. I hope they make this right.

A wonderful design and a great flyer. It flies on rails, loops, rolls, amazing half pipes as it retains energy, does inverted like it's meant to and really hauls in big wind all ballasted up in big wind.

In this episode Malc takes a look at the awesome looking new Hobbyking Ridge Ryder (not ridge racer)
The simplest of assemblies can go awfully wrong but in this case it really could not have gone together easier.

WOW... the Ridge Ryder Rocks :)

This is an awesome little wing! I've flown it in 25 knot wind with 100grams of ballast and it penetrates like a hot knife through butter. This afternoon I flew it in sub 10 knot wind with no ballast, but I had a little vid cam strapped on and it still penetrated better than I expected. This thing has a much lower aspect ratio than most flying wings so it goes well in the light stuff... it flies better in light wind than a Wicked Wing. If I could only own one sloper... this would be it :)
