Seems to have counterfeit FTDI chips. Bought two, began receiving this error after an update:

stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00

After a lot of research, I found that downgrading the driver works, and that it is due to a counterfeit FTDI chip on the board. now I see there is a Windows 8 upgrade that may make this impossible.

If it weren't for this, I'd have rated them 5 stars all across the board.

Bought just one to trial as I've been a PIC assembler programmer for decades and wanted to check out the Arduino and its IDE. Had some problems, to cut a long story short the Nano A0 pin had a dry joint and would intermittently disconnect from the A0 header-pin and instead it would pick up the voltage from the adjacent A1 pin. Used it successfully by leaving A0 disconnected and using other pins instead. Not a brilliant first impression of Arduinos.
Cheers
Phil

I bought one to evaluate. On arrival I found it has an intermittent connection from A0 to the header pin, when it happens to be disconnected it picks up the voltage on A1 instead.
Otherwise functions ok, no problems connecting to Windows 8, but don't think I'll buy any more from here. Phil_G.

I feel sorry to buy this item as I spent one full day to try to upload sample sketch but I failed to at least communicate with it. I advise you not to buy it.

works very well, I like the small size and the reset button, the price is just right, I have Arduino uno R3 units, but they are a bit big to put on a RC craft, so I use the UNO to write my program and work out the bugs, then send the finished program to the little nano, connect my wires and off we go! if the pins are in the way, I unsolder them and use 90 deg pins so I can mount the nano flat, try to keep it away from the RX, the clock on the nano may cause noise problems for the RX.

First of all, I am not a huge Arduino fan because I think most boards in the family are overpriced for the performance. The one plus about the Arduino family is the good software library support. Having said that, the main reason I got my 4 Arduino Nanos is because the HK price finally makes it a great value, especially since I can get them from the US warehouse. The quality of these clones is great. Only caveat is that you may have to try re-connecting to USB several times before computer recognizes it, but I believe that's true of genuine Nanos too. I'll have to find a shorter cable and see if that improves things. Once it does connect, you can use the Arduino dev IDE w/o problems.

I do not know if it was working before but it is always a good idea to burn the boot loader to Arduino if there are any problems. I am not sure if just a USB connection will burn it because I used an usbasp programming stick instead.
