Can be quite a decent edf with some modifications. Firstly forget about trying to fly it on 4s. With a long smooth tarmac runway you might just get it airborne but it will struggle to maintain airspeed. The easy fix is to upgrade the speedy to at least a 60 amp unit and go to 5s lipos from the get go. The motor will handle it and performance becomes reasonably spirited.
Secondly remove and re glue the timber retract mountings otherwise they will tear off on your first landing. This happened on mine and 2 others that I observed.
Please Hobbyking bring back the red version. The animal print livery doesn't look good and I have not been able to find any history of the Mig15 ever having had that paint scheme.

Plane came in a couple of days well packed and no damage and at half price it is great value , good plane to go 5s or 6s with a up grade .

Nice looking initially when you take it from the box, my one had an issue with the edf where is wasn't balanced, But hobby king sorted that without question buy issuing a new fan or money back for the part.
On the whole this is a nice jet, i didn't fly mine straight out of the box because of the edf. But it seemed to be making alot of thrust, so cant see why it wouldnt fly straight out the box. There are issues identified buy the cult of people that follow this plane, so if you want a jet that is a diamond in the rough. Look no further, as you will find yourself tinkering with it, be prepared to make modifications.

Not a good buy . Ended up flying quite well after spending extra money on , servos, ESC, Uprated EDF. Total cost $250.00 without changing the landing gear, which are on their way out after 2 flights..

Pros...Flies well, not fast but scale like. Well made airframe , horns ,clevises etc.
Cons. Be ready to spend another $70.00 on decent ESC, servos and retracts. The ESC burned out on the first take- off. 4 of the 8 servos had problems, and the retracts are not too bad but plastic pinions wont last long.
Overall I would buy this aircraft again if it was in basic kit form for around $80 to $90 and fit my own gear, which I have had to do anyway. If you want a real good EDF aircraft I would go for the Durafly Vampire or even the Hobbyking Jet 70 ..both are very good and good value.

Received mine incredibly quickly and undamaged within 3 days from AU warehouse...with a QC8 label all over it..quality control.. Was very excited about this after 65 odd HK orders.. looks great til you discover...the tiger paint job is water slides like on an Auto-G gyrocopter..but all good..came together well..everything fits nice...but at the end..when ready to go..the usual HK issues...a simple aileron servo packed up..pot issues..not to mention the surgery on nosewheel required to make it work... but better still...despite an hour trying to get that servo out..usual glue joints are crap with these foam things..but that servo stuck just fine..only to discover..you gotta tryto find one with either same direction or throws to match the othe $3,- crapper... and no..it aint worth it...rather throw it out and learn not to buy those china clippers anymore..than pouring big bucks into it just to get that thing flying..not even mentioning fitting a decent fan unit... gotta have rocks in your head trying to bling up rubbish like that... go for a composite ARF and fit it out...not this kind of crap. Ordered a Sea Vixen too...while excited... get rid of it while NIB and recover some sort of funds...what a joke...star rating is for packaging and looks...enjoy while it lasts..

Ok, so I have spent months getting this plane flying decently. I tried 4s but its struggled to get off the ground on a 70 meter runway with a headwind. I changed it up to the 10 blade with and it did not really help even with a better esc ( the stock does not do s6). I then went to 6s with the l2855 but this motor burned out with a streak of black smoke after about 4 flights. It seamed to struggle with it a bit. I swapped up to a 1200 watt motor which made it better and a bit more fly able but after about 3 flights that motor has died as well. I am able to install a 90 mm fan on 6s to see if this fixed some of the issues but it is going to be a bit of work.

due to previous reviews I swapped the stock fan and engine with a 70mm 10 blade that HK sell and a NTM Prop Drive 28-36 3000KV / 755W. Im still in two minds about this plane, it flew good but I did expect a little more running on a 4S 3300ma 65-130c nanotech battery. Lost one of the landing gear in the first landing and the other in the second, I think they need some extra glue and some suspension as well. I had a dead stick landing on the 2nd flight and did not think too much of it. Turns out the the motor could not handle it and although the motor still works I have replaced it with a L2855 2100kv 900w motor that is recommended for the 10 blade fan.

Of the next 3 flights with the L2855 one could not actually get of the ground on a 50 meter run off the other 2 did because I had a head wind. On 4S it is very under powered for take off , once in the air is was not too bad. I an replacing the 4S esc with a Trust 55 amp so that I can run 6S which the L2855 is rated for. This should really power her along plus more volts with less amp will give me the same watts with less heat (fingers crossed).

If you want to see my 3rd flight have a look on u tube for a video called HK MIG-15 3rd flight by a user called bozmanx

Not flown it yet, but in the process of fitting it together the paint rubs off, I wonder if the manufacturer treats the foam with a bonding agent before painting. This a normal practice with lots of other foam models, I would suggest that HK look into this. but on balance the fit of the parts was very good.
