Make sure to put lots of self-adhesive 3M Reflective Sheeting under your airplane's wings, then this device works great. The sheeting is the type used on highway signs so you can see them at night. I get my supply from a local sign maker. Perhaps HobbyKing should sell 3M Reflective Sheeting, because it would solve all the problems of measuring the distance up to your plane with this device. It used to take many tries and lots of luck to get any measurement to my airplane, but now it's instant, first try every time, even up to the full rated distance.

Excellent.
Tested till 1.189 meters.
I equipped it with a 3V RC2 800mA rechargeable lithium battery.
I didn't think it was so good, better than blazoned ones.

With a measuring range of 1000 meters but an exaggeration. A good 400-500 meters. Nevertheless, I give it 5 stars farther and more accurately gauges the distance is much more expensive, can not be measured.

The excellent device. Did not expect that on it will be good so much. The only thing that was not pleasant to me absence of an element of a food. There is no name of an element of a food not on a site not in the instruction.

This is a great product, I have used it mainly for hunting with good results. In sunny conditions I have got consistent readings out to 723m and at dusk I managed a reading of 1223m, which I checked with my GPS. If you compare the price of these rangefinders to Leica, Swarovski and Leupold you can't go wrong.

The good thing is that the 1st thing they write in the manual is that the range depends on the weather. So maybe it really can measure up to 1000m in some kind of vacuum. :) mine never got more than 550 in a normal autumn day. But no cheating formally - they promiced UP TO 1000m

It's a nice to have, though doubtful that it fits modelling purposes - really hard to catch the model in 250m, almost impossible in 350.

The batteries are expensive and it eats them just as fast as any powerful laser device does. And HK does not have rechargeable cells of the sutable form. :( And I really don't want another shop.:)

But the measurement seems quite accurate. So 4 stars because I really expected a longer real range. But generally - a good gadget.

Absolutely magic gadget. I have measured up to 677 metres so far. The accuracy is consistently 1 metre. Great for measuring long distances quickly and really good for accurate flying heights.

Fine instrument for a very good price! Pity, CR2 battery is the weakest point, it would have been nice to use AA batteries for the price of increasing the dimensions a bit. One must get rechargeable 1000mAh CR2 by ebay or so.
