I've flown this motor several times in my Little Apple from HobbyKing and I'm very pleased. Smooth, quiet, and powerful, this has turned out to be a perfect combination. I'm using a 13X8.5 prop, a Turnigy Plush 60A ESC, and both 4 and 5 cell Zippy batteries with good results. The 5 cell 3700 Compact battery seems best, producing more than 700 watts at around 40 amps. Good flight times with cool battery and motor temps.Powerful and smooth, cant ask for much more at that price.bench test with this motor as follows.
6 cells 35/45 c rated
13x8 apc
56amps
1199 watts
plans are to put this in the new tower hobbies Koas 60, planes weight is between 7/8.25 lbs, this should to the job I think. peace out.I got the motor and have been testing it with the following
12*6 APC prop - Amp - 34 , watts - 490 , 3700 mah 5s
12*8 APC prop- AMP - 39.7 , watts - 577 , 3700 mah 5s
13*8 EMP prop - AMP - 63.7 , watts - 913 , 3700 mah 5s
The 13 *8 was to much of a prop for this motor while the 12*6 was too light , IMO the best prop for this motor on 5s will be a 12*10 APC thin prop .Very discouraging. The motor came without the X mounting bracket or prop adapter as shown. Not only that, but there is no listing for the motor mount to buy a couple of spares.Love these motors. Have one in goldwing Su-26 Sukhoi running a 15X8 three blade and 3300mah 4cell batts. Has plenty of power for 3d and around 5mins flight time. Other in a 46 sized cub, fly it hard run a 15x10 apc on that it is awesome, also on 4 cell and run up to 5000mah and 10 to 12 mins in the cub. Good light, powerful set up for your 46 sized modelsExcelent motor but size things up correctly!
The motor is rated at 505A @ 18.5v which works out to 1018 watts.
Well 1 HP = 745 watts so 745 / 1018 = 1.36 hp if you prop it for maximum draw. This is the equivalent of a less agressively ported .40-.46 glow motor... A modern AX .46 WILL produce 1.7 HP or approximately 1266 watts. Bare that in mind with your power calculations. For slightly larger .40 -.50 planes I've used the G60 instead.Great - powerfull motor!
I put the motor in Yak 54 Monster kit with 5C LiPo. Just well balanced (CG) and great performance. Plane goes straight up, plenty power for 3D. Comparison with .46 is fair!Great motor, runs strong and hard all day.Great motor, great deal. Just tested it out, bearings are quiet, power is very good compared to a seamingly same 46 I have that was twice as much $. All hardware was included, prop adapter, mounting plate, and screws. I don't have testing equipment or i would post but it pulls a 14x8 with a 5s 4000ma nano tech battery very well. -
