Disappointed

Apr 18, 2022

This looked like a good motor, and the price is up there with good quality motors, but don't think about buying this one. Lasted 2 flights, after that motor would cut out with a bad screeching sound then the smoke came out, poorly built inside. I wish I put that money towards something a better in quality.

This is a great motor. Heaps of power, excellent quality and easy to cool with large diameter. I installed mine in a 1850mm wingspan Sbach300 model with 8S battery pack and K-Force 120A ESC: 9020000002. The ESC works well with the motor using the default programming. The only problem I had is that HK do not seem to have their propeller recommendation correct. I used the recommended APC 19x10" prop and it draws 90A on a 8S battery pack (2 x Turnigy Nanotech 4S 45C)!! That is something like 2700W!! I would hate to think what a 20x10 would draw! I didn't have any smaller propellers so used end point adjustment on my radio to bring maximum throttle down to approx 65pcnt to achieve 2000W at full throttle. Plenty of power for the Sbach for effortless aerobatics. I am not into 3D so cannot comment on 3D performance, but I do have unlimited vertical performance. To me, it is equivalent of a 1.20 glow or 30cc gas engine when setup for 2000W. Clean and punchy electric power, I am a convert!

I tried mine with a K-Force (HW) 120A HV esc on 9S and the esc stuttered, then caught fire. It was only pulling 80A, 19x12 apc e prop on 9S 4500''s. Timing was set on 19 degrees and pwm was at 8KHz.

HK should ask what esc the manufacturer used, and what were the settings: advance in degrees and PWM in KHz. I have this motor in a Kyoso Corsair and it makes a loud screetching noise past 80pcnt throttle and looses sync. My setup is 18x10 prop on 9S with a YEP 120A HV 14S esc. This setup pulls only 75A. I use soft start and 24 degrees advance with 12KHz frequency. I have tried every other combination from 8kHz all teh way up to 16KHz, with timing advances from 18 degrees to 32 degrees, as well as "auto" timing to no avail. I only found a slight improvement when I switched from "plane slow" to "heli fast" startup. Of course governor is off, low volt cutoff is off, and freewheling is enabled. I suspect the YEP 120 cannot handle this (28 pole) motor, I wonder what ESC the Rotomax 1.2 manufacturer tested and reccomends.

Not recommended.

Burned after 3 mins flight, also caused failure of the 80 amp esc.

Where running on 8s and APC 19x10 in a Extra 300.

Thanks god i had external power to radio system, so i could land the model safely.

Hi. I have this motor and I want to use it in a paraglider, but using a normal 100a esc on 6s. I will never go over half throttle as it is only for slow flying. I will be using 20x10 prop. Will this work.? I have noticed a jitter noise when I open throttle. Any help?
