This is one fun model to fly. I installed an OS46 and it fly's great. Can go vertical until its out of site

Defiantly not for the inexperienced builder. The instructions are totally wrong. The hardware is mostly unusable. The Aileron servos are a real problem. I ended up using mini servos mounted under the lower wing. I had to reinforce the mounting with some 3mm ply (Not easy to do)!

The undercarriage mount need reinforcing with a bit of epoxy

Apart from that, it is now one of my favourite models. I just chuck in the back of the car. Fuel up at the field and am in the air in less than 5 mins

I would recommend this for the intermediate-advanced builder/pilot

Hi, I bought this some time ago and set it up for EP. Had to cut away a section of the fuselage directly under top wing (between the wing struts) and made a hatch. Make sure you modify the fuselage and hatch before assembling, as long as you are careful with the frame and rib locations, it will work out OK. Make sure you spend time on the CG, the plane is heavy so try to avoid adding any more weight in the nose. I had to cut the bulkhead to allow battery to move forward further. I fly with 4S, as it is not a slow speed flyer, if you are still learning, watch for tip stall if you back off on power. I chose a KDA36-10XL with 13" x 8 prop to give some grunt, not convinced it was a good choice but flies OK with the 4S. Most of my other hobbyKing models are EPO so they are more foregiving, make sure you have a few hours up before you attempt to take on this one. Once the plane is balanced and set up correctly, its very exciting to fly as an EP. May upgrade the power plant as I get more confident with aerobatics. Landing is like the real thing !!

Overall, I like plane. It came undamaged and nicely packed. The instructions are useless however. The instructions that come with the plane appear to be for a previous model, which causes confusion during assembly. You will have to figure out a majority of the assembly yourself. The servos are mini, not standard size. I would not recommed this model to a new builder. Other than that, its a good model. Balances well, and flys great. I am flying with an OS la40 glow engine.

I've taken my time putting it together. Overall it is very good quality for the money but it does require a bit of extra work to get it perfect and not so suitable for the inexperienced builder. Some of the supplied hardware is a bit average so a bit of discretion is required to decide what you are happy to use and what should be replaced.
The main wings incidence jig was the wrong size so it wasn't much use.
I modified the top wing support strut to make it more rigid.
I've replaced the alloy landing struts to carbon fibre as the stock ones have no flex at all so take off and landings were a bit bouncy when stock.
Servo cutouts suit mini servos, I've used minis in the main wing and full size (requires enlarging the cutout) in the fuse.
Fitted mine with an OS46ax, pitts muffler, 12x5 prop and she fly's absolutely beautifully like a much bigger plane and has loads of power.
Remember, this is a BiPlane, keep the weight down, it fly's very different to single wing planes, if your'e starting out, forget this plane.
A real head turner at the field, still gets my heart pumping each time I fly it.

Well It had it's maiden flight yesterday after the bad weather and it flies really well. I have put a SC 46 engine in it which gives it plenty of power, flies on a third throttle and not weight adjustments needed for CG with that engine. As said the manual is useless.. HK take note here. I'm glad I built it for me to fly it, others at our club gave me some good comments as well (unlike them). Please get your act together Hobby King you have a good model here if it had the right build instructions, better wheels and don't tape the decal's to the outside of the box like mine were.

The instructions come on a mini cd which has the pages of the manual and are very poor quality scans.
Parts list shows pilot, dummy cowl and instrument decals but you don't get them. It looks as though the manual is for another Ultimate model not this one. The manual is very vague and you need some building experience to build this model, NOT for beginners.
The tail plane does not fit without taking the bit of wood out at the rear of the slot.
The engine mountings want a bit of giggling for a two stroke. The distance from the firewall to the front of the engine wants to be about 15mm more than what it says in the manual.
The wheels are just foam and look a bit naff.
In the manual it shows one servo for the wing control surfaces but it wants two... one on each wing. Wing servo mounts are just balsa and not hard wood.
Sorry HK but I don't think this model is value for money.
The model looks ok but it was a pain to build at some stages.
