Very easy to assemble and excellent quality mouldings.
The clevis supplied are poor quality so I replaced them with something better hardly a deal breaker.
The extended motor wires and elevator extension wires are pretty installed which is a nice touch.
Overall I love the model and am looking forward to flying it at the next waterplane meet.

A little twitchy but fun to fly forget 3s preforms well on 4s both land and water. I have modified the plane so the wings and stabiliser can be removed so I can take it in the caravan. For the grey nomad stuff

great plane, awful decals..

the plane went together really well, everything was fine until it was time to apply the decals, what a awful load of crap they are! I tried to cut them out with a knife and eventually gave up and made up my own decals, its a shame they went to all that trouble to make a really nice plane and then stuff it up with such bloody awful decals

Flies nice, but i had to use flight stabilizer. Without it she was a bit unstable. I had there 3536/1450 motor, 7x4.5 propeller, 4S 2650mAh and 3000mAh battery. I crashed her after about 70 flights. Now I am buying her again.

Nice bit with some rough edges

First the bad: The decals on this are terrible. Really really terrible. Most of mine went into the bin and of those that I did manage to apply correctly they are already peeling at the edges. And no I'm not new to this, they are simply the worst I've ever seen provided with a plane.
Other issues included the plane arriving with both halves already glued, which meant to get the motor wires though you'll have to cut into the nacelle. One pushrod guide tube was inserted to far, meaning not enough protruded outside the plane and the other came with either a kink or obstruction somewhere near it's center. This was mostly resolved by forcing the pushrod though and then using silicone lube to reduce friction.
The motor cowling is too short for the two best motor choices (I I didn't bother installing mine although you can just cut the end off) and the plastic underbelly skid was cut too far, resulting it in not reaching he 'step'. I had the RCLander version of this and the skid provided with that still had all the flashing already attached, which was a better idea as you could then trim it to size.
Other than that this is a nice model. I've cut off both ailerons as well as the ruder and then re-attached them with metal-pinned plastic hinges. The rudder in particular needs this as it *will* tear off after a few flights. I've also completely covered the underside with packaging tape as this helps protect against abrasion damage and makes grass takeoffs easier. I used 3 x Corona 939MG (17g) servos all around and there doesn't seem to be any problem driving both ailerons from one servo. Just make sure you use the *innermost* holes on the servo and *outermost* holes on the horn. And turn down your rates; elevator & ailerons on this are very sensitive, 50% is a good starting point.
I also noticed was that it was possible to insert the wing spars to far, you need to have 16.5mm *protruding* on the long spar and 12mm on the short one. No pilot is provided although if you want to add one the ideal height is 47mm with the max height being 50mm.
As for motor, prop & ESC, the original model used a 3632 1300Kv although best combination from HK is probably a 1400Kv NTM 35-36A spinning an 8x6 prop + 60A ESC. This produces an acceptable compromise of flight time & performance on 3S and should go pretty quick on 4S.
It's also possible to use a 7x4 on the 1800Kv version of that same motor and although performance is very good - it's fast and can go vertical from a short takeoff even on 3S - I find it consumes at lot of amps and will stress your power system, especially the battery as it receives no ventilation unless the nose is modified to allow air though. I haven't tried 4S on the 1800Kv yet as I'll need at least an 80A ESC but I imagine it'll be quite a hotrod.
And lastly unlike it's little brother this plane as provided is not suitable for water takeoff's without modification.

Decals Skipper XL

Received model well boxed and in perfect condition. Finished assembly and went to apply decals and found that the decals are not cut separately and require using scissors to remove them from the paper backing sheet. (no laser cut around decals). What was worse that after applying them the inbuilt sticky glue was very poor and they are curling up around the edges. I have read similar comments about the Skipper XL decal issue on line so its not only mine.
