ASW28 arrived last week but been a little busy until now, but it went together without any problems and everything is strait forward in the build. The only problem I found was getting all the bits under the canopy and with very little ventilation under there, I'm sure its going to get quite warm...? So off to the field (AMAC Albany WA A) to give her a fly and with every thing squeezed in and fired up she flew strait and true with only two clicks of up elev to get her flying level. But after just a few minutes of flying/gliding I had gained some height and distance when she started acting unusual and erratic. After rushing to get her back safely on the ground investigations suggested that the problem was the cramped space having ESC, battery and Rx all squeezed in so tight. So tonight I did some mod's that I hope will fix the problem, I cut a hole in the foam to fit the Rx above the wings and ran the servo wires down the underside of the cockpit cover, now there is plenty of room for battery and ESC and hopefully no interference from motor and elec bits. I have added some pics in the file tab.... Flight test tomorrow.... :-)

ASW 28

I purchased the ASW28 from Hobby King on Tuesday night 3rd July 2012, via there website and warehouse in Sydney NSW, I must inform you that I live in Albany WA some 4,000 km (3,864.7 km if you want to be more accurate) away and on the other side of Australia, so I can forgive Hobby King and Aust Post for not getting it to me until Wednesday 11th..

Strait out of the box, it looks great and the packaging was excellent with no damage whatsoever to anything in the box, fuselage and wings were wrapped in bubble wrap and taped to the inside of the box, also a set of stickers and a small box containing the tail mounting screw and the small Y connector for the aileron servos. I will be converting this to separate channels later so I can have better control of the ailerons and mix to obtain flaperons. Also inside the box was the carbon fiber strengthening rod and a very neat looking cockpit with nice control panel detail, I will be opening the cockpit to paint it black and install a pilot when I have test flown the model as is.

There are no instructions included with this kit but anyone with basic understanding of RC models should have no problems working it out from the bits supplied. Installing the T tail stabilizer is as simple as inserting and tightening the screw that gos through the stabilizer into the top of the tail section and ther

Hello,

i've just received this plane and it looks great. But where is the CG? Is it 1/3 of the wing? I use it with 1300mA Lipo from HK and at the moment it is too heavy at the front.

Thanks in advance,
Ren

This plane rocks!!! I have mates that fly RC and I finally decided to give it a go and join in on the fun. This was my first plane.

Firstly out of the box it went together quickly and there were two minor hiccups. The ESC came with a female xt60 plug the same as the turnigy battery. Female/female obviously doesn't work. Ordered some xt60's and after a little soldering had a working plane. Also the fuselage has a slight twist which effected flight (i didn't know it being a beginner) but with some trimming on the controller it now flies perfect. Becuase of these 2 things in gave quality 4 stars but once sorted its been fantastic.

I use stock ESC and motor the it came with and use 1300 2s 20c batteries. It hand throws awesome now that its trimmed perfect. It climbs well and flies really nice. I've had it doing back rolls, tight banking turns etc and it lands very easily with a little space.

Now that said because I'd never flown before it has crashed badly atleast 5 or 6 times. The cockpit has been glued back together 4 times, and a wing tip twice after nose dives into the ground and hitting trees. All very amusing and good fun learning. The point being it repairs easily and it still flies nicely.

So its an easy to learn flier, easy to repair when its not going to plan and now that I've really nailed the last 20 or so flights I've ordered another one. I'd recommend for sure. A

I like my ASW-28 very much. It climbs well and responds to light lift and it looks great. The elevator is very sensitive, almost like a stabilator, and the rudder is effective without being twitchy. However, there are a couple drawbacks. Out of the box the ailerons are nearly useless. The biggest problem is that they are too flimsy so even on the ground the outboard portion barely moves. I was able to improve them by covering them with silk to stiffen them and using longer control arms on the servos. I also set them up for differential throw but I may end up sheeting them with thin plywood to stiffen them even more. They are better but one still needs some rudder in order to turn. I also had to take off some points because the wings needed a lot of sanding. The foam strip that covers the pushrod and spars was protruding nearly 1/8 of an inch from the bottom. None of this was difficult to remedy but it did take some time. Access to the servos also leaves much to be desired. I had to drill a hole through the wing roots to change the servo arms and one would need to drill through the bottom of the fuselage to access the elevator and rudder servos without cutting them loose. I also cut a hole in the bottom to provide cooling air for the ESC.

All in all, I like the performance and appearance but the fit and finish leaves something to be desired. It's not a problem for an experience

Packaging very good but unfortunately, a wingless was broken and there were no red stickers for ali.Il others visiting, the propeller shaft is threaded and this causes a bit of vibration, I will try to replace.La canopy is not well fixed so I added a magnet, if you want to replace the engine there will be a little work because it is fixed to the base and then stuck.Il model is very lightweight and is a good flier

Stunning. Item arrived quicky all fine, no instructions but its not like any are needed. Flown for about 6 hrs total in thermic conditions. 1st flights were with out a mix on the Ali & Rudder. The glider needs balanced turns with ali, rudder and elev. Flew today on a blue day with small but strong thermals. The mix worked well, 1.3mah batt got me some height then powered down and some decent amount of up trim. The glider connected with a number of thermals and was nearly flown out of sight. I took my eye off for a second and then refocus and discovered I was looking an a normal passenger jet, Doh re scanned and found it again. Such a great glider.... sadly 45 mins in just before I was goinging to land.... I took it up again as it was very lifty on the final glide. engine die at around 100m. Nice nose drive and the sound was just like a high speed glider. The impact thud was damn loud. Small crack where carbon spar popped out of wing - not much.... Crack around engine mount and canopy area still quite minimal and finally canopy frount mounting lug is now only 50pcnt there so still very useable. If you like the thermal then get this if you fly real gliders get this, it flys the same and thermals the same. If even got lift of wind blowing on a hedge.....
