A Life Well Lived: Passing of Horizon Hobby CEO

The hobby industry is today mourning the loss of Joseph M. Ambrose. At age 61, Horizon Hobby CEO Joe Ambrose passed away unexpectedly on Friday (January 4th, 2019).

A longtime hobbyist, Joe Ambrose joined Horizon in 2005 as the Vice President of Distribution before becoming President and CEO in 2008. In a statement released by Horizon Hobby, the company shares some of his achievements in the industry, namely his contribution to heading the acquisition of Hobbico’s RC assets in 2018. Additionally, with a strong focus on 2.4ghz radio technology and foam model airplanes, Ambrose helped develop growth in the hobby industry throughout his long-spanning career. Greg Lykins, Horizon board member, said of his passing “we have lost an amazing human being and visionary leader. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Joe have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.” As a longtime member of the hobby community, we are saddened by his passing and wish to pass on our condolences to his family, friends, and coworkers. Ambrose made a lasting contribution to the RC hobby and his legacy will not be forgotten.
