The DFS Habicht (Hawk) was a fully aerobatic glider that was designed in Germany in 1936, in fact in the same year, 4 of these amazing looking Gliders were used to great effect in entertaining crowds attending the Olympic Games. Praise for the flying qualities of this superb and very distinctive looking gull-wing glider came from many pilots, perhaps the most famous being Hanna Reitsch.

This Habicht is a stunning scale glider, combining quality and classic good looks with excellent flight characterstics. The finish and construction of this glider are simply amazing, the supplied hardware is also of the highest quality. The model features a tough blow moulded nylon composite lightweight fuselage, plug in wings, hatches for air brakes in the upper wing, pull/pull rudder and so on. This H-King Habicht is an attractive and scale/vintage sport glider offers the scale glider pilot a truly superb model that is bound to draw admiration and attention wherever it is flown.

Ein interessantes Modell.

Oct 31, 2016

Good:
Overall quality really good
No hardware bits missing and above average quality
Nice tail control, solid but light push rod for elevator and pull-pull rudder
Servo mounts in fuse fit HK standard servos perfectly
Looks as stunning as in the picture
Manual above average, though lacking precision in some details

Not so good:
Fuselage doesn't look like Nylon to me. ABS? Might be brittle. Not sure.
Wing connector rod is 11mm solid steel and weighs 220 grams!
Plywood of both spoilers warped
All up weight more than 2.4 kg, a heavy bird

Needs about 1/2 kg of weight in the nose.
Flies well but not as fast and aerobatic as I expected. But I like gull-wing classic gliders, so no regrets! A total bargain, when it's on special :)

I just started assembling my Habicht; and I ordered the six (6)standard servos as stated in the add. Well the wing aileron needs something other than standard servos. I would like for HK to address this mis-information. I also need to know what type servos are required for the wing.

Nice glider, flys very well. Looks great going off the aero tow and handles well. Yes it's a little on the heavy side but this does not bother the flying characteristics. My complaint is quality of the body. The plastic is brittle and after only 15-20 flights it is cracking up and is not looking to healthy. Where and when can I get a new body? You don't list spares for it? If you want a glider that will last you a good time walk away from this one. Sorry hobby king but plastic body glider??? Never again, do the right thing and change to a grp body or wood. Love flying the glider, but so very gutted I bought this one.

Ok so I have finished putting it all together and dialed in the radio, I used the servos they recommended , the aileron servos are a little noisy but they are strong and fast !! I hate having to put wings together at the field so I epoxied the wings and the the rods and that steel bar all together so it is rock solid. On the first flight it was around 10-15 mph wind she went up on a high start no problem, however I think this bird loves higher wind speeds 20 ,it is heavy but responds to what you put in well .have not tried the tow release ,installing the door /wheel retracts item #107000123 when it gets here. I am still not to sure about the 'blown plastic mold' fuselage I will not fly her in the cold it would crack it maybe. I am thinking about getting the fiberglass edition, and making a few mods to it , she does fly well and is easy on the eyes. For the price it is a decent deal.

Hobby King did this one right on the money, great value for the price, the quality of the workmanship is better than I expected. I could only find two small problems, the first is the lack of quality hardware they send with the plane, the second is a design flaw I think they should have made more room to put the servo and linkage in the brake flap system, it is super tight !!!I am thinking of just taping them up. The Packaging is some of the best , no scratches or dents , all parts were wrapped very nice and secure, overall I give this plane FOUR STARS , good Job ,will be getting another to have around for working on this winter.
