The SE5a was responsible, along with the Sopwith Camel for winning back and retaining allied air superiority from mid 1917, until the end of the Great War. It was a stable aircraft, making it an excellent gun platform, it was faster than most allied fighters, including the Spad and more importantly, it was faster than anything flown by German fighter pilots. Although available in much smaller numbers than the Camel, the SE5a was the mount of many famous aces, including Albert Ball VC, James McCuddon & Edward Mannock, it was truly a classic fighter aircraft.

The superb Durafly® ™ SE5a is a high quality and beautifully detailed Plug and fly model that is made from tough EPO foam, good quality servo's are pre-fitted throughout, as is the ESC and powerful brushless outunner motor. The SE5a is not difficult to assemble and so will be fairly fast to get into the air, that said, with a model this nice, it really is worth taking your time! As well as looking fantastic, this model is built to last and features carbon re-enforced flying surfaces, steel re-enforced landing gear, proper rubber tyres, and so on.

At 1030mm wingspan, the Durafly® ™ SE5a has loads of presense in the air and on the ground, the high quality finish and level of detail really finish off this amazing model which flies every bit as good as it looks. There is stacks of power for aerobatics, and tons of thrust from the purpose made scale prop for cruising at scale speed, combine all that prop wash with the nicely balanced control surfaces and you have a model the handles well and retains it poise, no matter how slowly it is flown. The Durafly® ™ range is top quality in every respect and this stunning SE5a is no different, so time to don your flying helmet, goggles & silk scarf and go on the dawn patrol!

I love my Durafly Se5a! This is probably one of my favourite releases from HobbyKing along with the Spitfire MK1. I hope they will stock it again. The Se5a turns 100 this November so it would be a good time for a special release!

I just flew it today. Fantastic look and excellent flight. The only bad point is the manual which is a little poorly done. I received a black and white copy very difficult to read. I miss the descriptions on how to place the wing rigging in place. I had to look the pictures from somewhere else plane.
But the rest compensates.
Recommended buy!!!

Super model flys well and handles grass easily due to the large wheels. The undercarriage is extremely robust and should take the roughest of landings without complaint. The whole plane is tougher than it looks having survived an excursion in the trees with minimal damage. In all a great move as my second plane after the Bixler.

Now had maiden flight and it flew like a dream, bags of power to leave ground after 3/4yard run in no wind conditions. I am new to R/C flight and this is only my second plane after starting with a Bixler 2 really impressed with this aircraft as the next step. It looks pretty too.

Attention anyone considering purchasing this model... Do it!!!!!

I bough the SE5 on a Monday it arrived on Wednesday (great delivery as always from Aus Whs) Had it together with only a couple of very small mods in a couple of nights and had a still wind afternoon on the Sunday to maiden....

It was BRILLIANT!!! ROG with the big wheels on grass was a non event (I was fearing the usual nose-over then pull up... but nothing) first flight was lolling around - the usual circuits, fig 8's to get used to the controls and landing after 5 mins with 1600mah 3s; used only 40pcnt....

Second flight - the same; ROG was beautiful just slowly increase power as speed increases to avoid torque roll and gently increase the elevator - it is really a non event... more lolling around then up for a stall test it just waffles around and drops a nose - the recovery is easy as. Again landing was a breeze; make your approach, reduce power (but don't cut the power off - a common mistake in electric flying; leave a bit on to maintain control and fly slow) above the ground just let it settle and a perfect 2 wheeler will result with no nose-over. This time 6 mins; 45pcnt used... Could easily get 8 mins from 1600mah and still have heaps in reserve.

This model is spot on... C/G is perfect with Turnigy 1600 3s, has absolutely no vices & flies like it is on rails. My only additional advice: set the throws to 100pcnt

This is fantastic plane and great value for the money.Mine arrived in perfect condition with all parts accounted for in the assembly was uneventful although the wires were a bit tricky to set up. With the recommended battery the CG was right on and hence the maiden flight was a delight and I love how this plane appears in the air. As it is somewhat larger models than prior biplanes I've owned I find it easier to track in the sky. it is relatively easy to take off, just gun the throttling within three or 4 m you are airborne, and landing is easy as well but you want to keep a little bit of power on when bringing her in, one third throttle and slowly throttled back as you touchdown. As this is an exceptionally good quality product I will be investing in parts when required in this plane is more often than not taken out to the field every time I go. The model could be utilized by a beginner but I would suggest an experienced RC modeller help with the assembly and setting up the control throws and potentially taking charge of the maiden flight to get the plane and trim ( mine required very little trim). very forgiving flight characteristics typical of most biplanes with a mellow tip stall and hence if a beginner keeps it two or three mistakes high it could be an excellent trainer.

Fantastic little model. Great detail and easy assembly. I had to modify the battery compartment a little to fit a Zippy 2200mah 3S 40C battery, and it is certainly a tight fit. Currently using an OrangeRx R710, but may swap out to a R620 just because I need the R710 for another model which needs more channels. RX is fitted just in front of the rudder servo. Great model Hobbyking; Well Done...
