The YAK54 is a very neatly designed EPO 3D parkflyer. With smart features such as side-flip canopy for super fast battery & wing removal, 1 nylon bolt wing brace and unique rudder hinge system. This YAK54 doesnt borrow hinges or horns from the parts bin, it's all totally new, resulting in a plane comprised of parts that work together better, reducing weight, increasing strength and ultimately making it a more enjoyable plane to fly and work with.
Because of it's weight, the YAK54 only needs a very economic motor system, the 2408 sized brushless outrunner gives more than enough power on a 2S 1,000mAh battery. You don't need to buy expensive batteries to enjoy this plane, 20C is all thats needed!
The large control surfaces and quality included servos make this very 3D capable.
Wing moulding and fuse fit together perfectly with unique servo locations and you wont find any ice-cream container cowling here, it's all EPO!

This is a well designed and totally new 3D parkflyer that won't dissapoint even hard core 3D pilots. It's scale details visiually appeal and are backed up by it's flying ability!

Evil little plane. Not for beginners. Looks great and very tough body. Have crashed several times with no damage or easily repairable. Quite touchy and small so doesnt like the wind. A good challenge to fly. The color scheme is great at distance for determining orientation. Ran with Turnigy 2S 500mah on Spektrum remote with OrangeRC reciever. Had many flights and many crashes and only had to replace propeller (buy spares).

What a great little model. I use with 1000mah 3S and it happily whizzes around my local polo ground. Snap rolls, stall turns, inverted and knife edge, all accomplished with ease. I installed a spare 3 axis helicopter gyro I had and it made landing helluva easy. It's an breeze to assemble and extremely crash resistant.

The Goods:

1. Good construction and pretty solid.

2. Affordable.

3. enough power on a 1000Mah 2s pack.

4. Flys well once properly trimmed.

5. the body can take a couple of tumbles.

The bad:

1. Stock servos are horrible. You need to swap these out for one hxt 900 for wing and twp hxt500's for tail. If you dont you WILL CRASH.

2. Motor that came with mine was rusty and cant access it easily. Motor shaft bends very easily.

3. Very limited space for receiver and wiring under the canopy. If you are using a Turnigy 9x and are limited with receiver choices then you will need to modify the canopy.

All in all if you make the needed mods this will be a good little plane to have in the hanger.

Good strong and forgiving entry level 3D model, you do have to squeeze a 3s 1000mAh battery in but the ESC motor combo has given me no issues over 30 flights. In all honesty mine has all but expired now but has taught me how to handle pretty much anything. The nose is a solid chunk of foam with a weight in and will take a lot of abuse, I run a 2 blade 4 X 6 prop and it pulls out of a hang easily. Highly recommended.

Ditch the servo's after you've had a few flights, or just do it to start with. It will be money well spent to have a better quality in there considering the speed and weight of this bad boy.
Also pull out the nose weight if you're gonna run a 3s/1000mah. This setup give me 10mins of pure Adrenalin!!!
Superb design, with sweet paint scheme!
I rate this alot, because this is my second, and for a foamy it's great value and you get a epic plane!
Be warned though...... This "Yellow Arrow" is ballsy and not for beginners!
If you do some time on the sim, make sure you scale down your Yak 52 of choice, and weight it up, for accurate feel!

Bought this last week from the AUS Warehouse, and on my doorstep 4 days later.

Great finish on the aircraft - very quick setup (15 minute build, about another 60 minutes to get the stock setup right). I needed to move the rudder push rod to the outer setting on the servo to get more rudder throw, and tighten the left hand horizontal stab screws due to asymmetric elevator movement (the horn is attached to the right only). Also had to cut out most of the front cockpit foam to enable a 2S 1300mAH or 3S 1000mAH LiPo to fit.

Maiden flight on 2S was great, except for far too much throw on the ailerons, so I dialed them down to 66pcnt. Most of the reviews said that even with 2S, this aircraft is a handful. I disagree. Very underpowered on 2S but a nice park flyer. Can't do many aeros though. C of G did require some working out, it is a long way forward (about 54mm from front edge of the wing). Aileron servo jitters a bit but not noticeable in flight. Could swap it out for HXT500 if you want to.

Then threw in the 3S. Wow, this aircraft is a fantastic performer on 3S! Fast, good vertical (not hover), great roll rates even with 66pcnt on ailerons only, good stall turns with good rudder control. A Beauty. Flies like an Sbach or Edge Balsa model.

I managed on the third flight to crash her pretty badly trying a low knife edge pass which was a bit stupid of me, but now it's a good excuse t

Fliegt jetzt ohne.
Mit 2S allerdings kein Bringer.

A three cell lipo turns it into a real aerobatic plane. But it is a twitchy son of a .....Crank up the aileron expo and reduce the travel to abot 70. Not a beginners plane, but fun to fly once you get it right (takes a few crashes though)

I waited until I have flown this plane for 2 weeks to write this review:

I have ordered 2 of these planes, the first one arrived damaged, but it was an easy fix with some foam safe CA. HobbyKing also gave me a partial refund for the damage to the plane. The claim process is different from other vendors, but do what the HK rep says and you will get action.

The Yak 54 EPO - This is the toughest airframe I have ever tortured. I have literally broken this plane into chunks, glued it back together and it still flies like new. The included motor and ESC are excellent, but the servos should be replaced before taking this plane up. I used 7.5g mini servos and they work well. The wings arrived with about 7 degrees anhedral which was removed with hot water. You want the wings straight at 180 degrees. I also replaced the wheels with larger ones to keep from breaking props, and I also removed the 1oz metal slug from above the motor to get it to balance with the 3s packs. This plane flies like a brick on 2s. Only use 3s. Even the motor has 11.1v written on it. On 2s it will keep you on your toes trying to keep it airborne. On 3s this plane is pretty fast and fun! I recommend the Turnigy N1000.3S.45 they have been working great. I am getting 7min flights from them. Thinking about trying 4s with a different Motor and ESC soon.

The Yak is NOT for beginners. It must be landed with plenty of speed, but will take it if you still make mistakes like I do.
