This really nice little Sbach 342 is a very attractive and nicely made park fly aerobatic model and is perfect for either sport flying or 3D with the right set up.

The construction is excellent, the result being a light yet strong airframe, the superb looking covering has been expertly applied and the included decals really finish this great looking model off. All hardware is included and is nice quality, for instance, the horns and wing tube are CF, the under-carriage a sturdy brushed alloy and the wheel spats are moulded plastic for durability.

Ok, after building this plane and finding out parts missing as advertised on this site that there are a few small issues with this particular plane. Fist I found was the carbon horns as advertised had not been included. Also the elevator is connected with a wire. I've found this creates flex or warp between elevator surfaces. I have cut away the rear fuse and joined the 2 surfaces together for a stronger control surface. The main wings can benefit with spigots which have locating holes in the fuse as well. The main wing with just the plastic screws and spare can slightly rotate the wing giving this plane a wobble while flying and inaccurate response to aileron inputs. Once these issues are sorted out it shouldn't be as bad. I found it was tail heavy slightly but to correct CG is easy enough.

Nice little plane, arrived with hull broken on one spot (got HK points back for it). Perfect CG with Turnigy 3536 1250kv motor, 3s 2200mah lipo, 40A ESC, 4 digital metal geared servo. With this setup u can go unlimited vertical. Be careful though, stalls easily at low speed... therefore I already had a crash - probably my fault, not the plane's.

One beautiful plane! The kit is well built and a very nice finish' Hope to have in the air this weekend, if the weather permits. The wheels that came with the plane are really small, so I used 1 !/2 inch wheels. My runway is a little rough.

This Sbach was gorgeous, it looked the business and the build quality was almost perfect, the only thing I spotted was the rear servo holes were too bug for the recommended 9g but the wing holes are perfect fit for hobbyking metal gear 9g servos. I read some reviews on the sbach and found a mixed variety, to sum them up i wouldn't recommend this plane. first of all it can't fly... I balanced the plane slightly nose heavy to what the manual recommends by putting a 2200mAh 3s (what your supposed to do) when flying it well i wouldn't call it flying, it took off and it was flying beyond nose heavy like a constant high alpha then went into a spin and its no more. I also went and brought a much bigger motor (as recommended by reviews) If your planning on buying this I advise you to look at the mini extra (blue and yellow) 944mm, if you are going to buy it, just to play it safe whack a huge motor up front and 4s it.

The box says 600 to 650 grams.....mine weighs 1280g. 2200 4cell and a prop drive 3542. It high speed tip stalls, only model I've had that has done this, and it happens at much less "pull up" than I would expect. Think it may be the wing tip shape? Balance is 60mm with battery in designed position and no other weight added. Landings are causing me a problem, again with unexpected tip stalls. Smaller engine/batt may be the answer, but it certainly goes hard! So, if you load it up, be careful.

Sehr schlechte Detail Verarbeitung,

Got my Sbach a few days ago and my expectations were quite high because of the reviews already here. Unfortunately, this model is totally useless. First off, one of the wings were 5 degrees off (further up than the other), the tail is twisted, the wing-bolts were nowhere to be found, the wings had no anti-rotation pins, the landing gear doesn't fit, the CA hinges were all gone and the cowling didn't fit at all. This is my first bad model from HK, and depending on what action the CS is able to take, it'll most likely be my last.

Fitted NTM 35-42 1000 Kv motor 11 x 7 prop - bags of power! Replaced all the clevises and control rods except long ones to tail. Very tail heavy with COG per manual. Moved COG forward a full 20mm! (battery moved partly into motor mount area 40g lead weights). Also fitted HK 3 axis stabilizer. Undercarriage not fitted - hand launch and belly land (but on long grass only). A nightmare to set up, but now nice and stable flyer.

Onto my second Sbach, as the first disintegrated in mid-flight at the firewall. During assembly, you need to reinforce with epoxy or additional ply around the undercarriage well and all around the firewall. I also added some balsa fillets in the motor mount to stop it flexing and twisting.
With Turnigy Park 480 30A Plush 1800 3S Nanotech, it performs nicely, but with a 10x6 Master Airscrew prop it will not do 3D - insufficient thrust to prop-hang.
It's all-up weight as I have build and equipped it, ready to fly, is about 1000g inc battery - far from the 650g in the specs.
Construction issues:
The lugs on the wings were incorrect with respect to the holes in the fuselage. Holes needed filing to enlarge.
The wing tube was a little long.
I added a ply tray to mount the battery as the original tray was cracked and too flimsy.
The engine mount to the firewall is weak and flimsy, needed reinforcing.
The wheels are too weak to land on grass strip, they disintegrate.
The second model was arranged differently for the servo linkage to the elevator and rudder, but worked out OK with some additional balsa supports, likewise the servo tray needed extra bits to mount the servos (holes were too big).
You need to plan the assembly sequence to put the tail together in the right sequence, and get the holes made for the bent-wire elevator link.
It is good for simple aerobatics. It flies like

  2. 2
  3. 3
  4. 4
