The Sbach 342 has been nothing short of a sensation since its arrival on the aerobatic scene, Philip Steinbachs masterpeice manages to combine aggressive yet graceful lines with a modern look, that has caught the imagination of aviation enthusiasts the world over. Performance is of course, what cutting edge aerobatic aircraft are about, and it is ironic that the Sbach 342 was designed specifically to mimic model 3D aircraft capability.

The Hobbyking Sbach 342 is a looker, no doubt about that and the more you look at the detail the more the "wow" factor of this model really hits home. The size of the control surfaces grab your attention straight away, this is built for 3D/precision aerobatics, then look at the hardware, the pushrods using ball-links all round, pull/pull rudder confirm the initial impression. The amazing, ultra high quality construction gives stength combined with light-weight, another essential precision aerobatic box ticked!

This model has been superbly thought out and designed, other features worthy of a mention are the composite/ply motor mount, CF tailwheel bracket, the extensive hardware kit that is included, the rubber mounted cowl, the carbon fibre wing tube, the canopy secured by a latch AND magnets and so on, the Hobbyking Sbach 342 is stunning combination of scale detail, high quality workmanship, high quality components and out and out performance.

Arrived in about week in good condition from US warehouse. Assembled in about 12 hours over several days. Beautiful plane, sharp lines and color scheme! High quality hardware. Installed Gen Ace 4841-550KV with 60 amp esc 13-8 prop and 4400 mah 6S. Flew great; sharp knife edges, loops, snap rolls and acceptable climb rate. Hovering was a problem, probably because a little nose heavy. 4400 mah 6S lasted over 10 minutes. Plan to try bigger prop 14-8 and smaller battery 3300 mah.

Received this nice looking plane last week. USPS damaged the box during shipping breaking one of the wings. HK offered me 10 dollars for the inconvenience. Now they are investigating the issue since I refused the 10 dollar reimbursement.. REALLY?!?

Mine weighs 2.5 kg with a 4ah 4cell 40c Turnigy pack and Turnigy 5055C motor. My nephews weighs closer to 2.7 kg with a A-Spec Nano-Tech 4.0 ah 5 cell. We both added longerons to the lower fuselage to reinforce the landing gear plate. Mine are aluminum tube, his are carbon fiber rods. The SBach 342 flys straight, and aerobatics are easy. Speaking from 3D, I'm not the best pilot 3D and I can only say a bit. The knife edge holds well and is throttle/altitude based, such that sideways loops are possible, and low-speed high alpha rolls are nice and soft, predicable and a good pilot can make her do all the possible maneuvers. Inverted flight is effortless. Nearly 0 coupling and with the right CG a zero-zero setup is very comfortable. my CG is right on the edge of the LE sheeting. The balance point could well be on the spar, to maybe 1 or 2 cm aft.

The power system in mine is 850 watts. Nephew...1700 watts. He have the revised 5055 from Turnigy the L5055 580kv and a very good 5 cell. Power from Neph's is 12 pounds thrust, on his 6 pound plane. Mine climbs verticle no problem on 850 watts...haven't flown the second SBach yet. A digital servo stalled and burned out before he can maiden, and we're waiting on a backorder to replace it.

I'm currently using GWS HPX park servos, and soon to upgrade them to HK752MG on Rudder, the rest, DS-319MG. My all up weight will increase about 100 g

Doing the build, got the plane Saturday the 10th of November 2012. So far by today Sunday, everything is ready, but for the servos and linkages. I have an order with backordered items waiting for shipment, with the servos and battery, as well as CF control horns and servo arms.

I'm uploading pics. Details are shown in the pictures of my light, but strong, reinforcing of the landing gear mount. I routed the firewall and formers to accept a 12mm aluminum tube on each side of the L/G mount. The tube is clamped onto the L/G mount plate, and filling in with epoxy. I added a 5mm balsa former to the fuselage at the aftmost reach of the aluminum tubing. Plane goes together easy.

On the cons side, the packaging did not fully protect the shipment, and I got a couple of bangs in the side that snapped bulkheads in a few places, minor stuff, I glued them. Strips of 1mm x 3mm carbon fibre were added to shore up the breaks.

Servo openings are 18.0mm wide and 32.5mm long, if you're asking what servos to use.

The HK752MG is my rudder servo, and ailerons and elevators each have one DS238MG. A bit heavy but the output torque from these servos will hold the airloads better than 12 gram servos. The additional weight for my servos is in the 1 to 2 ounces or 50 grams or less range.

The long motor mount, from firewall to motor mounting plate, is reinforced with CF 1mm x 3mm strips.

I don't know who has suggested the Turnigy 620DMG HS but thrust me, this is absolutely the WRONG servo's for this airplane !

They are too much thick ! they don't fit nor the ailerons nor the elevator holes !!

I have ordered 5 of this servo's and they are useless with this airplane.

A garbage, elevator weak, sheeting full of bubbles, pieces that do not fit, accommodation of servos too large, all wrong! ... waste of money!

went together in record time and flies really nice.

no bad habits and just floats when trying to stall it.

Im using a 6s setup si it is a bit heavy but plenty of power to handle the extra grams.

Great plane over all
