SJM 500 Heli

Nov 14, 2007

Very good product. I have 3 small issues though. 1 ) SJM need to get some more professional packaging with printed box , some printed material etc..( I did however receive the package in perfect condition. Thanks Hobby City )

The blade holder is UGLY and way too big for the blades , and lastly the canopy painting is not very good ( I think its better to leave it white like the non pro version. Having said that, wow what a great product, everthing looks fantastic , the smoothest tail with ZERO slop. Cant wait to fly it just waiting for my electronics.

Very good quality

Nov 14, 2007

The helicopter came together fairly quickly, it's fantastic quality. The canopy is rather heavy however you seem to need it for balance.

I managed to fit the Zippy-R 2500 3s batteries in under the canopy but only just! The HXT 2200 3S1P's are far better for fitting in the helicopter and give you a lot of options of moving around center of gravity.

9 gram sized servos will not work at all on this for the rotor head, i tried some Hitec HS-65MG's but needed to upgrade to HS-85MG's, HXT 9314MG would be perfect. A digital tail servo is a must on this helicopter.

The manual which comes on a half size cd leaves a lot to be desired. There are almost no instructions, only a some engrish warnings at the beginning which are a bit of fun to read and then pages and pages of technical diagrams. If you buy one of these, take a look at u4eake's blog: http://myhobbycity.com/blog.php?b=47 it has everything you need!

Quality

Nov 14, 2007

Ordered this heli a couple of days ago. It took 4 days from ordering to getting it, that is from HK to Sweden, very good. Unpacked the heli and found that everything was well packed. The building of the heli is quite easy, just make sure you check all the screws that have been mounted there by someone else. My rotorblades were balanced from the factory, all the machining of the parts are quality made. I am waiting on my JR G770T Gyro for the moment so no flying review here but so far it seems like a great heli. I used HG-D250MG`s (digital) for the Swash and HGD digital 201 for the tail.

SJM 500 Pro Heli

Nov 14, 2007

I did not get this assembled and flight ready in 3 or 4 hours, about one day is what it took me. Only two fights but if you use 12x12 on the collective and lots of pitch it will simply smoke. This thing can do axial rolls faster than any heli I have every had the pleasure to fly. Watch out Align you many have went down the wrong path. 2nd flight we got 5 minutes of full slam all poke 3D. Not bad for 2200MA batterys. You simply cant go wrong at the hobbycity price. For the person who ask yes it is the long tail with big motor combo. One last word, this heli is stable but if you are a beginner have someone set this machine up for you and let them fly it first. Thanks HobbyCity best money I have spent in a long time...

SJM500 Pro

Nov 14, 2007

I bought a Basic SJM500, and I love it. It flies great and performs well. The Pro is even better in 3D. The Longer tail helps keep the Heli's tail more locked in. Normal Flight times are about 8 min. 5-6 min in 3D flight depending how aggressive you are. Removing the some of the flybar weights makes it even more nimble, like a 450 size heli.

- 12/+12 degrees pitch capability

- stronger motor (1000W)

- pre-painted canopy

(as somone posted on the forum)?

SJM500 Pro

Nov 14, 2007

After I have purchase the standard version of SJM500, and loved it so much. I decided to get the SJM500-Pro. The two kits has same packing and shipping box. All the parts are secured with tape and foam. For the canopy, it is a painted compare to white canopy from standard version. I have not started the assembly yet. So far, it looks like a very great helicopter Kit.

Great heli

Nov 14, 2007

Have not yet flown this heli, but the quality looks amazing. All carbon fiber and aluminium, and bearings in all joints in the tail assembly. Defidently a worthy opponent to Aligns T-rex helis. And at this price, you simply can't beat it.

Would be nice if HobbyCity got better at stocking spareparts, though. All in all, I really recommend this helicopter.
