Welcome to the ultimate scale experience. The Avios Spitfire Mk5 has been built using super scale, a new modelling technique that allows for incredible detail. Featuring more artistry than the 1100mm Spitfire, the larger model has visible panel lines, exhaust, cannons, and scale split flaps with turn indicators for added realism.

The Avios Spitfire Mk5 is the perfect warbird for flying at your local club. Designed in collaboration with Tom Hunt, the warbird has pre-installed electronics, replaceable rudder, and navigational lights on the the tail and wings. Slide the canopy back, then lower the cockpit door to reveal the interior details, including instrument panels and gun sight. The front of the canopy also includes removable armoured glass to make room for an FPV camera.

Made of bolt-together foam pieces, the Avios Spitfire Mk5 is easy to store and transport when travelling to the air field. The plane also has a large battery tray, ball-link controls for precision, and hidden control surfaces for a realistic look. The Avois Spitfire Mk5 comes in two different colour schemes, ETO (European) and tropical (African).

You'll fall in love with the accuracy and detail of this super scale model.

Super Scale Spit is a good flyer

Nov 04, 2019

I purchased this because Robert Petrincic recommended it on his YouTube Channel. He was right. It flew nicely from the start. smooth and stable. Landings are slow and stable even without flaps.
Issues encountered are as follows: Servos especially the aileron "growl" and have some issues finding center. The landing gear shock system was very tight and required some dry lube to work smoothly. The small print decals did not stick well when applied so they tended to become misaligned. Cockpit canopy did not like to slide. Required some dry lube and still wants to twist canopy when opening.
Overall this plane was expensive for what I had to do to make it work like it was supposed too. Flightline 1200mm probably flies just as well and has superior quality at 2/3 the price....

Great looking and flying airplane

Oct 02, 2019

This spit is very nice quality, great looking and flies beautifully. I love the new level of detail in this kit. the details are much more scale in size and appearance. I fly this plane on 5 and 6s batteries . 5s 5000ma for scale flying and 6s 4000ma for unlimited vertical and speed. Both batteries weight almost the same so no need to change trim between batteries. Ground handling in cross winds can be a little tricky but is very manageable. The oleo legs are and great addition both in appearance and soft landings. I have 12 -15 flights in light to moderate winds with no problems to date. I did not have to add any elevator mixing with the flaps, just reduce throttle to 35% and put the flaps down. Over all this is a great addition to my collection. I did have a problem with the wings as one wing tube moldings did not line up correctly. HK was wonderful and quick to replace the wings according to instructions and at no charge to me.

It is a Dream

Jul 03, 2019

When I got my spitfire my first reaction was to figure out that this plane is really a form plane. The scale detail are very good and it looks cool. My Spitfire came with preinstalled servos, motor and speed controller. I never change everything of it and they are still working without any failure. The Plane fly very stable and it has a outstanding look. I is relay great. Starting and flying is pretty easy. Only landing could be ambiguous. You have to use full flaps and land it very smoothly. But a the end of the day it is a perfect plane. I love it.

Beautiful plane but indefinitely grounded

Jul 03, 2019

I've been watching this plane since Hobbyking announced it in 2017. After reading RCgroups and waiting for the initial bugs to be worked out with the wing spars, I saw Hk had a nice sale and I decided to purchase it. I absolutely love the scale details of this model. They truly did a great job and the form and fit look great, but lacking in the function department (with my example at least).
The first issue I had were the aileron servos not centering well. I had a spare set of Hitec HS-81 servos so I decided to swap them out. One of the flap servos came unglued and one aileron hinge was also not glued well but that was an easy fix. Next issue were the maintenance decals had been cut incorrectly and completely unuseable. I submitted a RMA but have received the wrong part on two occasions and still waiting for that simple part after 5 weeks.
The next issue was more serious. While doing the final checks at the field, one of the gear servos shorted out and took out the other gear servo, along with the rudder and elevator servo. My reciever/gyro appears to be fine, but the jury is still out on that one. I'm waiting to hear back from Hobbyking support on how they are going to handle this issue.
Currently, the decals and the landing gear servos are on backorder with no ETA date. This means the plane could be grounded for months. This is a gorgeous plane but it's looking more like a static model at this point. I also wanted to have an extra nose cone assembly and landing gear stuts but they are on backorder at this time as well.
I'm going to order the Flightline 1600mm Spitfire in the mean time and see how this saga unfolds. My 5 year old son is very disappointed that we couldn't fly it yesterday. I told him it's better to find out these issues on the ground versus in the sky. It's a lesson for me as well.

The Queen of the Sky

May 20, 2019

Had no problems with assembly, all fit together perfectly. Flies like a dream, looks like a dream, this is my fave warbird of all time... the Queen of the Sky!
The ONLY nit-pick I have is the battery hatch foam quality wasn't as good as the rest of the plane - quite course and grainy. But other than that, if you're on the fence buy it. Click on that button and enjoy it.

Best Scale Spitfire but Check Everything

Apr 29, 2019

No doubt this Spitfire has the best scale fidelity and features that come standard. However, assembly quality leave much to be desired. So a thurough once over on anything that could come loose should be retightend or reglued to prevent mishap during operation. Mine also has the deformed wing carbon tube embedded in the Moulding process. Grinding the inside to round it did thin the top too much and I heard a crack as I forced in the wing joiner tube. Though I though the joiner tube would be carrying the bending load so I just let it be. So far no mishap yet....

Let down by build and design issues

Apr 24, 2019

Good points are it looks good and flies good.
Bad points - sliding canopy a joke. Doesn't slide smoothly and despite making sure it was fully closed it came off on the 2nd flight and was lost. No spares in stock!!
The Rudder top hinge is loose. Do not fly this model without putting in an extra top hinge. If the rudder comes unclipped in flight you will loose the aircraft.
Hidden aileron hinges are mechanically poor and require severe reduction of servo travel. They do not properly self centre meaning roll trim changes throughout the flight. I'm going to revert to conventional linkages and sacrifice scale looks for flying precision.
