The Tiger Moth can be best described as Iconic, it was developed from the very succesful Gipsy Moth and designed by Geoffrey De Havilland in the 1930s to meet Air Ministry specifications for a new preliminary Trainer for the RAF. The most noticable feature that distinguishes the Tiger Moth from similar DH bi-planes is the distinctive swept upper wing, which allowed better access for a pilot while wearing a parachute. The Tiger Moth went on to become a huge success all over the world and was used by several airforces, it wasnt replaced by the RAF until 1952 when the DH Chipmunk entered service, the "Tiggy" is to this day a very popular choice with pilots all over the world and is known to be rewarding to fly.

This Hobbyking Tiger Moth is a high quality, totally in house design & development that is exclusive to us. Made from tough EPO, it is easily the most scale foam Tiger Moth available and is just dripping in molded scale detail. Small enough to transport easily yet large enough to have real presence both on the ground and in the air, it is the perfect size for a foam scale bipe. Being Plug and Fly, the motor, ESC & servos are all pre-installed and a lot of the work is done but it would be fair to say that a little more assembly work is required than many PNF models, which you would expect from a bi-plane.

The flight characteristics of this Tiger Moth are simply outstanding, you will be hard pushed to find any foam model in its class to match it. The excellent 9g servos are perfectly matched to the control surfaces and the low kv motor is perfectly matched to the 10" SF prop, which gives the Tiger Moth lots of prop wash over its control surfaces for better control when flown at scale speed. Throttle up and realistic aerobatics are a synch, you just wont tire of this superb scale model. The Hobbyking "Tiggy" has everything, quality, scale detail, practicality, amazing performance, toughness and superb looks, it is a must have for the hanger of any scale RC pilot & enthusiast.

Salut,

I bought this Tiger Moth around 9th of November, 2012. It arrived to Czech from NL within 5 days, very nice. The airplane is beautiful in scale, easy to assemble, and relative easy to fly in slow speed especially after I install a 3-Axis gyro on it. But it has a strange tendency to pitch up, so I thought it might be due to tail heavy, so I add around 30 gram on head, then it only flies fast, stall when slower down. Anyway, it won't glide. Landing needs to adapt. It's not hard to fly, but need time to get used to its characters.

This airplane has 2 problems. First, it's surface is resistance to glue, especially to my own Epoxy and the epoxy they gave in box. The glued control surfaces are easily to come lose and lost control on mid air if I tried to do some fast fly and 3D. Secondly, The low wing is easy to break near central part. It's design fault. After several flight, it developed "stress fracture" without being crashed.

Conclusion, it's nice airplane for more tinker and patient type pilot. You need to pay attention to it and love it with regular maintenance, or it will break. And don't fly it in strong wind, don't push it too hard.

Nice little model flies well lots of lift took off like it was in a lift The one problem with it is very weak undercarriage struts They broke off on the first flight and I had to put metal forward struts on alongside the plastic ones Otherwise a lovely little plane The suggested battery will fly the plane for about 8 minutes

This is not a beginner plane. Make this like your 3rd or 4th plane. Looks great but will need weight in the noise. Will noise up and stall once flown. CG off, took over 4 hours to build. Poor instruction that does not come with model. There are NO spare parts of any kind for this plane. You stack it, that's it. Flies like a 3 legged dog.

Quality was poor, shoty glue job, lower wing very weak. Mine starting to develop stress crack along fuselage. Good value poor plane.

Skymaxy and I bought one each and both have the same problem. When increasing throttle quickly, motor hesitates and RC system glitches. I think the prop is too large for the motor / ESC combination so I tried a 9x4.5 SF prop and I believe the problem has disappeared but need further testing to confirm.

I got two of these, a yellow one for a mate and the red one for me.

No bent wings or gap in the fuselage like others have found, the packaging was very good as usual from HK.

The motors in both kits had been pushed in which made the prop shaft point up a little and caused the prop to rub on the cowl. Had to pull the mount back, epoxy it and tape it in place while it dried. The supplied glue was aweful, don't use it - I had aileron horns come unstuck in flight, but luckily it's so easy to fly that I could still land it.

After 3 flights one aileron servo has started to flutter. The elevator servo on my mates one has also done the same thing before it has even flown! The gear struts are also very weak where they join to the fuse, even epoxy doesn't hold the gear on during a light nose-over landing.

The moth does fly very very well however, just a shame about the quality of some of the components.a

Regretfully plane is not silver and red but grey and red so I give only 3 crowns for HK to lie about the color. Maybe the writer is color blund?

Otherwise flies good and details are nice.

I maidened it at last. has good flight characteristics. But since control surfaces for the elevator and rudder are comperatively large, you have to adjust the EPA correctly, otherwise it makes sharp moves.

Lands like a helicopter under windy conditions :) not so enjoyable to fly it under extreme wind. A good plane for mild weather. Has good presence in the air. Very good choice for the money.
