The classic lines and proven capability of the Yak 54 combine to make it one of the most popular aerobatic models, the Hobbyking Yak certainly looks the part and make no mistake, 3D flying is what this superb model is all about!

The quality of this Yak 54 is simply as good as it gets, the airframe has been constructed to keep the flying weight minimal but strong enough to take the punishment of extreme aerobatics, the superb quality covering has been expertly applied and for the final touch, the cowl, canopy and wheel pants are finished in a deep gloss paint. The hardware is excellent & also chosen to keep flying weight to an absolute minimum and of course the model features plug in wing & CF wing tube as you would expect for easy transportation.

The H-King Yak 54 performs every inch as good as it looks, naturaly it makes for a great sport plane but it would be fair to say that hardcore 3D is what the Yak has been designed for. The precision of the airframe, stunning looks, top line quality and amazing feather weight specs make the Yak 54 a must have plane for all aerobatic and 3D pilots!

I bought this kit 6 months ago but only started to build now and all I can say is WOW! Covering job is really good, I barely had to iron anything. I only ironed control surface edges as I always do with any kit but in this one I could glue the hinges straight away. Everything looks aligned (no warps), all flight surfaces are airfoiled , just beautiful! Control surfaces edges are beautifully chamfered (beveled) in an absolutely perfect 45 angle. This will give plenty of control throws for 3D.
I bought a second kit before even assembling this one. I would by more if it wasn't for the shipping and Customs charges.
I'll update this review after assembly and flight tests.

This yak 54 is a keeper, spent some time getting set up and it flew very well with little trimming on the maiden flight, followed throws and cg from the instructions they seem to be spot on. I have started to make some mods to the air frame due to experience with similar arf's the 2 main ones increased support around landing gear and and bracing around motor mount, added to this I also ran ca over most of the front structural joints just to make sure, I have to say the construction excellent running gear much the same as the other review, 3 flights today lots of fun.

Great kit, well made, good hardware, paint & covering.
Good instruction manual supplied.
I added a carbon elevator pushrod & ply servo mount rearward of main spar. Pull/pull rudder, carbon tube main spar, Al landing gear, F/glass cowl & wheel spats all supplied. I used NTM 42/58 500KV outrunner with 5mm collett adaptor pinned to suit 50mm carbon spinner with alloy backplate & made a 65mm T6 alloy motor mount (36grams), turnigy 85A ESC with BEC, 4 x Corona DS-319MG Digital servo's (32 grams each). Turnigy 15 x 8" cherrywood propeller produces great thrust. The canopy latch makes access quick & easy for battery changes.
With my servo arrangement, no ballast was needed using Zippy compact 4000mAh 25C 5S Li-Po battery, giving a flying weight of 2350 grams. Excellent model, great colour scheme, good stickers supplied. With a wingspan of 1380mm this model has good presence in the air. I throughly recommend this 3D capable model.

Follow up to initial review. I was wrong, the 3 mm space I complained about is required to plug the wings in, The wings are tapered, without the space u couldn't install em into the fuse. The plane is excellent, probably slower flying than most 3d planes. I have a 4000ma 5cell bat, 105 amp esc, turnigy .46 motor and a 15x7 prop, Is plenty fast for me. 60pcnt throttle yields 8 minutes of high perf flying. They love it at the field. The LG is easily bent on HARD landings. Is easy to straighten too. The bending prevents breakage of fuse/LG mounting area - thats good for me, I still have hard landings. It does not have mnt points provided for a 2nd elevator servo. I have the recommended 15158a dig srvos, am sure the rudder servo is stalling and 90pcnt sure elevator is, I don't see it in ailerons. This plane will do whatever you want it to. Real 3d guys will need more powerful servos to do a 2 meter loop at full speed.

Just got my Yak 54 in. Mocked it up and looked at all the hardware, most glue joints, covering etc. This is a very nice plane - as advertised. Fit and finish are excellent overall. Only issue I see is the fit of the wings into the Fuse is about 3mm too big (tall) for the first 50 mm or so on both sides of the fuse. Its not a lot and shouldn't affect flight but for such a well built plane the factory needs to know. Instructions are better than average. Hardware is excellent -like my Enigma, Fiber control horns, good landing gear. Can take 1 or 2 elevator servos. 3 stripes on btm of each wing
