The first thing that strikes you on inspection is the superb build quality, the Zlin has been exceptionally well designed & built, it offers a very low flying weight with no compromise given to durability, for instance, the vertical stabilizer has been made from glass fibre to withstand the strain imposed by the sizable elevators, even when pushed through the most punishing aerobatic maneuvers. The other thing that stands out is the scale look of the Zlin, models of this class are often slab sided with little attention to detail, but not the Zlin. The covering is superb as is the paint finish on the cowl, the 1 pc wing is bolt on for easy transport and the supplied hardware 1st class. Other indications of the sheer quality of this kit are the proper canopy hatch, the supplied instrument panel, and the scale struts for the horizontal stabilizer.

The Zlin-Z50 is a top quality and highly capable aerobatic model that is exceptionally scale, designed to accept either glow or electric power, the Zlin is the perfect club size model, easy to transport and field assemble, yet large enough to have real presence in the air and on the ground.

Through a combination of light weight, generous control surfaces, exceptional build quality and great design, the Zlin performs every inch as good as it looks. A highly scale aerobatic model of this quality and class is a rare thing and all of the combined features of this great looking Zlin at this price are unheard of ........until now!

I now have two of these Zlins ... first set up with RCGF 15cc gasoline engine and 15x4 prop. Brilliant and perfect balance at 3.1KG. The second has a Turnigy 5055 400KV motor with 6S 3300 LiPo, 80A ESC, 15x10 MAS prop.
So the E-Powered version : The setup draws 52A at full throttle and with a static thrust of over 4.2kg for an all up weight to fly at 3.0kg. CoG sits at 124mm from L/E which is still a safe position. I have a 1700 2S LiFe pack powering the high torque Henge servos. Being electric allows a higher pitch prop - the performance is simply amazing. Its an attraction wherever she goes, not being the usual Sbach / Extra model. I do have an A3 Super II unit fitted in her for those bad weather days - but in reality - she does not need it. On this 5055 / 6S setup - she cruises on half throttle. Which is better ? Gasoline or E version ? Very hard to choose ... the gasoline version has the sound and grunt, the e version is just so easy to get to flight. The E version just edges the win ...

I am now setting up my E-Power version to sit alongside my Gasoline one. Turnigy 5055 450KV, 80A ESC, 6S 3300 30-40C Blue Turnigy LiPo .... with 15x8 prop. I am aiming to match the AUW of my gasoline job at 3.09Kg and which has perfect CoG balance at 120mm. The AUW given in description above is impossible to meet. It would also create a very tail heavy model if you could.
I have replaced the main wheels with slightly larger lightweight 3" real rubber ones to give better grass run and less bounce.
The 5055 motor needed shaft reversing and also 10mm blocks to move it forward to clear spinner on cowl. 70mm alloy backplate spinner is perfect.
Decals shown in photo on this page are wrong. The main EC-DLX on fuselage should be more forward with rear clear canopy line setting the start mark. The medium sized Z-50L should use front clear canopy line as start. I will upload a scale sheet depicting of Zlin 50's including this one. The real Zlin has no Zlin Z50L on the tail.

This model needs weight up front if you go with recc'd E or Glow power. My Zlin was fitted with RCGF 15cc gasoline engine and she balanced perfectly.
Items : 240ml tank, 2S 1800 LiFe Rx pack, 15x4 Wood Prop, standard servos all round.

Marvellous flyer and later I added a Hobby eagle Super II gyro system which brought this Zlin into 3D world fully. On the RCGF and 15x4 - she would prop hang as long as fuel was there !
Sadly I was aerobating her one day and got too close to ground, banked her for another pull-up and tip dug in and she cartwheeled. Rebuilt her and then had a dumb thumbs moment over tarmac runway. Rebuilt her again but when I saw stock again here in EU - I bought another. Looks like I grabbed last one.
This is a really good flyer and anyone with reasonable ability can fly her. Get comfortable with her, up the rates and have a ball !
Definitely a machine to love in looks and ability.

Thjs is a sweet airplane but balance needs to be on the button. The RCGF gasoline engine 15cc balances her perfect. Watch the maiden flight ... engine still running in - so no heroics yet ! But once dialled in - she will surely perform well.

Nicely double boxed. Very mice looking model. Covering a little slack in places where not tacked down ... but quick iron over and fine.
Fuel tank and parts not included ... also tail wheel bracket not included but wheels and legs are.
The rudder pull-pull guides are in place back in the tail ... shine a light down there and you can see them. I used the long elevator rod to pass through the guides to puncture the covering from inside ... otherwise you cannot find them.
Make sure you pass the elevator joiner through before fitting fixed tail-plane !
I think main wheels a touch small ... so may put slightly larger.
I fitted a RCGF 15cc engine ... but only way to fit is to have inverted, as the stand-off mounts conflict with motor box dove tails.
Once completed will maiden and link a video.

Unboxing post :
Now received the kit ... noted that a few parts missing from listing in manual ... this partly explains price reduction. I have CF landing gear from HK for 120 size model ... should be ok fit instead of the Alloy - need to reduce weight if possible due to using 15cc gasoline engine. Noted that elevator is single servo and rod link at tail end .. not too happy about this ... may see about twin servos instead.

Had this a while now so I thought I would share my maiden with you, we'll, is was non eventfull, took off in 10mph winds as straight as a dye.
2 clicks of down and 1click of right and it was flying hands off!.
This plane is fantastic, the build quality is great and the covering also.
I ended up buying an Asp91 from HK for this and it pulls it round fantastic with unlimited vertical, a great combo.
This will do all the tricks in the book, you will not be disappointed.
