Are Spektrum Releasing a New Protocol?

Rumour has it that Horizon Hobby will be releasing a successor to their popular DSM2/DSMX protocol.

The rumours from a recent tradeshow circuit are that the new protocol won't be backwards compatible. This will mean that it is likely that the new protocol won't work with any of your current Spektrum goodies. Clearly, this comes as bad news for any RC enthusiasts that have invested heavily in keeping their fleet on the Spektrum protocol. hobbyking news spektrum Making DSM2 redundant is a somewhat understandable decision for the company, considering it is no longer able to be used in Europe. However, it seems unclear why Spektrum would decide to also make DSMX redundant, as rumours have suggested. We all know 2017 was a rocky year in the RC hobby world with established brands such as JR and Hobbico claiming bankruptcy. In a business with so much competition and ever-changing technology, one can only speculate that the alleged move is possibly a way of Spektrum attempting to reinvigorate an already flagging product line. It is no secret that they've probably lost market share to less expensive options that do the same job. For example, the Orange TX6i radio. What's for sure is that a different protocol didn't save JR's skin so it'll be interesting to see what Horizon can pull out of the bag. What are your thoughts on this? Facts or hear-say?
