DJI Introduces the Brand New Mavic Air

Last week drone giant DJI teased enthusiasts with a cryptic video message about their forthcoming product announcement.

Keeping tight-lipped DJI didn't share any information, other than a tagline that reads 'Adventure Unfolds'. This had many, HobbyKing included, speculating on what the product may be, with most guessing a new folding Mavic. After DJI's lackluster presence at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, where the company only announced a few accessories, it was clear that this was the announcement that the company wanted consumers to pay attention too. Today, at 10 AM in New York, DJI announced their new product. The new product entitled Mavic Air "takes cues from all of DJI's landmark drones of the past and yields something unique and new in the process", according to DJI. As reinforced by the brand, the purpose and design of the Mavic Air are for the user "to go wherever adventure takes you". hobbykingdjimavicair While DJI has labeled their new product Mavic Air, many are pointing out the similarities of this model to their beginner-friendly Spark range. In many ways, the Mavic Air is a combination of both the Spark and Mavic Pro. The Mavic Air boasts a new compact and lightweight design which makes it easy to fold while still remaining stable in flight. It is so compact that at their announcement meeting this morning DJI stated that, when folded, the Mavic Air is so small that it can easily fit in your pocket. In addition to the design and build of this model, there is a 4K camera mounted on a 3-Axis Gimbal. Comparatively, the Spark's 1080p is mounted on a two-axis gimbal, meaning that the Mavic Air model is more stable and flexible while shooting higher quality images and videos. The Mavic Air is the most portable drone released by DJI to feature this 3-Axis gimbal. The Mavic Air's battery should last up to 21 minutes of flight time, which is between the Mavic Pro (27 minutes) and the Spark (16 minutes). The Mavic Air is a clever combination of two of the company's most popular product ranges and is a great option for beginners and advanced drone enthusiasts alike. It seems that this latest offering from DJI, which is priced at approximately $799USD, will continue to strengthen the company's market concentration in the drone industry.
