Drone Tech Now Being Used for Insurance Claims

We’ve previously reported the use of drone technology in a number of different industries.

For example, drones have been used down a runway for Milan Fashion Week, as well as for agricultural purposes. Needless to say, drone technology has been used for much more than just your average hobby or sport. Drone technology has once again been used in a new and innovative way. Now it is being used to analyze property data. US-based company Loveland Innovations have created software, named IMGING, that cleverly blends automated drone tech and analytic property data to collect property details. This is usually to assess damage costs, repair costs, and can be used to create a policy for a new property. Of the software, Jim Loveland, CEO, and founder says “We believe that a more professional, detailed roofing data capture system can be a key part to closing more business — it’s a much better experience for homeowners if you can offer more than just materials and numbers.” Fourseventy Claims Management, who specializes in daily and catastrophe claims, has decided to implement this drone technology to make actioning their claims quicker, and with greater accuracy. Lee Boyd, Vice-President of Product Innovation at Fourseventy claims, says that one of the biggest benefits of using this technology is that they now no longer have to worry about the safety risks involved with climbing up to the roof to assess damages. Instead, they can use a drone to get a quick and more accurate picture of the damage. This is not only safer for roofers, but it also saves time that was once spent having to climb roofs. The software works by using a drone to fly above the property. Then the IMGING software app will import the data in search of any damages or risks. Using all the information seen on the drone, it will then auto-create a report with images and size of the property and highlight risk areas on roofs. However, not everyone is as optimistic about this technology as insurance companies are. Michael Clarke, who made an insurance claim following a devasting storm, tells his local news station that drones were not able to accurately capture the damages to his property following the storm. Its use in a variety of industries has proven that drone technology is not just a trend but is something that is here to stay for good. Written by Rebecca
