The De Havilland DH-88 Comet was designed to win the 1934 MacRobertson Air Race from England to Melbourne in Australia, the beautifully sleek Comet not only won this event but went on to set several records. Several Comets were built for the race but the striking scarlet "Grosvenor House" comet won comfortably in a time of 70 hours and 55 minutes. It would be fair to say that the DH-88 is probably the most stylish of the Golden Era racers, bearing in mind that most airforces were still flying bi-plane fighters at this time, the Comet, with it's ultra sleek lines and 255mph top speed was a glimpse of the future in the early 1930's, the construction techniques devloped for the DH-88 were later used on De Havillands most famous son.....the amazing Mosquito!

The Durafly® ™ DH-88 Comet is a faithful scale reproduction of this most elegant of race planes, it is constructed from tough EPO foam and is nicely painted in a deep scarlet, the final touch is courtesy of the pre-applied white waterslide decals, which help make this model really stand out both in the air and on the ground. The wing is removable for easy transportation and the huge canopy allows for easy & fast access to the Lipoly battery. The scale detail is typical Durafly® ™ quality and includes scale exhaust stubs, superbly molded cowls, purpose made spinners and counter rotating props.

This superbly priced kit is ideal for those pilots looking to use their own power train, especially the speed freaks and also those who want a hand launch version.

She looks to be fast and she is really a beauty. I could not fly it because of the bad weather. The painting is not fixed good. It will come off partially during putting together.
One motormount was missing.

Great kit - even comes with the props and spinners so that was an additional bonus - everything seemed to arrive relatively unscathed although the foam pads designed to stop the naceles from moving were poorly glued enabling the nacelle to move about - minimal damage though fortunately - very nice product that flies very well

Very successful toy, flies very nicely with motors 2836 1400kV and accu 3s 2650mAh. Still get two propellers 6/5.5 to increase the speed.
Flying weight (with servoless retract) is only 738g, is not 1100g (???), i put accu forward to tip and remove the original steel weight (62g) of the tip. I used servos TGY-9018MG, they work well.

(cont.) 20A Red Brick ESC Prop mount prop spinner light retracts light wheels light struts) = 220gm/7.7oz

This gives a total aircraft weight of 820gm/ 30oz / 775gm/27.3oz with/without nose weight. If I add a heavy (187gm/6.7oz ) or light (163gm/5.7oz ) 2200 mAh battery this gives an AUW ranging between 938gm/33oz and 1007gm/35.5oz., the upper weight being quite close to the normal PNP weight of 1020gm/36oz, but the lower weight being 82gm/2.9oz lighter. So a lot will depend on whether I can balance it without the nose weight and with the lighter battery. The 3-axis stabilisers I ordered (14gm) are about to be shipped so I will probably build this beautiful bird next and maiden it with the stabiliser, taking off gear down and belly landing gear up.

4 Crowns so far for a beautiful, well made but badly packaged aircraft. I may raise or lower this in the future depending on how it flies (and lands).

Well my DH-88 kit arrived, a most beautiful looking aircraft and very well made. I got the kit because I think the PNP version is too haevy. Shame about the packaging. Mine suffered from the normal one bent wing tip and one bent and broken wingtip. NOTE TO HOBBYKING: a bit of bubblewrap around the wingtips would probably fix this. Also some small dings in the fuselage, probably from the extra stuff I had in the order better packing would have prevented this.

No major problem I should be able to straighten the wingtips by hot water at exactly the right temperature and fix the dings either by hot water or by filling and airbrushing if I can mix exactly the right shade and sheen of red, which I need to do anyway to cover the aileron servos.

The kit includes everything it says in the Hobbyking website, including double motor firewalls. The fixed u/c is in fact the gear part of the scale u/c in the PNP aircraft, though with no obvious way to attach it, and the u/c doors are included. The ANX 2208 2150 kV motors appear to fit perfectly, both in terms of width and length if I use only one of the motor firewalls. My light servoless retracts are exactly the right width for the plastic retract fitting if I cut a couple of grooves with a Dremel.

The airframe weighs 400gm/14.1oz with the nose weight and 335gm/11.8oz without. Adding 2x (AXN 2208 20A Red B
