The De Havilland DH-88 Comet was designed to win the 1934 MacRobertson Air Race from England to Melbourne in Australia, the beautifully sleek Comet not only won this event but went on to set several records. Several Comets were built for the race but the striking scarlet "Grosvenor House" comet won comfortably in a time of 70 hours and 55 minutes. It would be fair to say that the DH-88 is probably the most stylish of the Golden Era racers, bearing in mind that most airforces were still flying bi-plane fighters at this time, the Comet, with it's ultra sleek lines and 255mph top speed was a glimpse of the future in the early 1930's, the construction techniques devloped for the DH-88 were later used on De Havillands most famous son.....the amazing Mosquito!

The Durafly® ™ DH-88 Comet is a faithful scale reproduction of this most elegant of race planes, it is constructed from tough EPO foam and is nicely painted in a deep scarlet, the final touch is courtesy of the pre-applied white waterslide decals, which help make this model really stand out both in the air and on the ground. All servo's are pre-installed as are the brushless motors, ESC and retracts in the screw on engine naceles. The Comet is very practical, the 1100mm wing is removable for easy transportation and the huge canopy allows for easy & fast access to the ever-popular 2200mAh 3s Lipoly (not included). The scale detail is typical Durafly® ™ quality and features scale retracts with a nice slow operating speed, a front landing light, scale exhaust stubs, superbly molded cowls, purpose made spinners and counter rotating props.

The full size DH-88 Comet was designed for speed and as a consequence, didn't suffer fools at lower speeds! Durafly engineers have taken the best of the Comets attributes and managed to build in nice manners at lower speeds, the end result is a superb flying model! The DH-88 was of course designed for racing and the Durafly® ™ Comet will not disappoint fans of high speed models, scorching low passes never looked so elegant! Because of the Comet's impeccable manners at lower speeds, there is also plenty on offer for scale pilots and landing's & take off's are drama free courtesy of the counter rotating props and steerable tailwheel. Once again, Durafly® ™ have broken the mold and set the standard, just like the full size aircraft, this model has quality, style, elegance and performance, re-live the Golden Era of Air Racing with this amazing DH-88 Comet!

How long has HK been selling this model - more than two years!
And yet still today they do NOTHING to secure the wing in the box - free to move end to end in the box and damage the wingtips - BS!
and whats with the paint - just touch some of the packing tape to the foam and paint lifts off with it! and not a real good color match of the red plastic parts to the foam painted parts.
I also note a near breakthrough of the carbon spar- foam is a bit thin.

Flew fine for 5 mins then a motor cut out pulling it into the ground, I repaired it easily though. Was extremely fast and when I got it in the air again it will only fly on full throttle or it stalls.

This plane required very good, plain landing field - you can easy broke electric landing gear.
Landing gear is quite heavy , after several flying session i remove landing gear ( it can be done pretty easy).
Because model still have 2 motor gondols , still can easy land on any field.
Without gear model is a lot of faster, easier to control and more smooth in reaction in any direction.
Im flying on 3S and 4S - without any problem, oryginal propellers changed for APC 5x5 , model starting now from hand very easy and instantly.

This plane looks great and mine flies well. It has plenty of power as it will cruise at less than half throttle and really moves when you pin it. Looks close to 100 mph.

I'll start by saying that my wing tips were broken down like most. I warmed them up in hot water and got them bent back in place with a little glue. One ailerons hinge was broken and I also glued it with the flexy foam glue. I held some washout in the tips/ailerons just by hand for a minute and some of it stayed.
I spent some time balancing the motors with aluminum tape. They really needed it. Both props came in perfect balance. I ripped the big chrome weight out of the nose. I don't know why it was there as my plane flies stable with just a 65C 2200 pack up front. I have the motors on 2 channels and spent some time with the mix to get them running in sync at all throttle settings. My retracts work great so far.

They should have made this plane just a little bigger with all the same gear in it. I really do like it, but you have to land pretty fast because it has a high stall speed for a foamy. I was pretty pleased with it's stall behavior otherwise. Yes it will tip stall, but only of you make it and recovery is immediate if you let off.

Love this plane! About 100 flights to date, -1 crowns for packaging and needed mods:
1. Cut away the foam in the nacelle wheel well area that covers the ESC for better cooling - no motor cut-out issues at all.
2. Remove the nose weight, the c.g. is perfect with a Turnigy 2200 mAh 3S pushed into the nose section.
3. Reinforce the lower portion of the motor nacelles with epoxy and glass as these are fragile and take a beating on grass landings or nose-over when taxiing.

Great plane. I did all of the mods, uncovered the ESC's, pulled out the nose weight, and glassed the plastic caps on the nacelles. This thing is the fastest 3 cell I have ever flown. It zips down the runway at WOT. Nice 6 minute flights without draining the 2200 too much. Don't slow down, or use too much rudder in the turns, and land it fast on the mains, because it loves to tip stall if it gets too slow.

This thing is FAST. Takeoffs are a challenge as well as landings. You MUST keep the speed up on this Comet or you'll tip stall in a BIG hurry. Flaperons help with landings a bit. Do not just screw the nacelles in, GLUE them in or they will tear off. Get an extra set of props for it as well.

This bird is to replace the 310 after it did a water landing.. Box looked perfect but the RH wing tip was crumpled. I removed the false LE light covers and fitted H/I LEDs in to them and wired them up to one of the 2 core wires coming out of the speedie. The nose LED (very dull compared to the HI Leds) is connected to the other speedie.
The Speedies had to be reset for the 9XR as I had no linear throttle. Fitting the props I found the LH spinner back plate is the wrong one I have 2 RH back plates, the fronts are correct But I did order a spare set when I ordered the plane.
Set up with heaps of Expo on the Ele.
Maiden in the morning.

A figure is beautiful.
Electric retracts are usealy not function.
Rudder servo was broken too.
Wing has black pipe-shaped rib inside of firing materials
Right wing is abnormal.
Position of the bone is abnormal.
Therefore a right wing is twisted, and the surface swells.
As for me, modelling is not pushed forward.
I think this is faulty product.
I am troubled very much.
