The Ugly Stick design has been a popular nitro sports model for almost half a century and this iconic airframe is known throughout the RC world for its exceptional flight characteristics and charming yet simple lines

With the Durafly Ugly Stick, you too can experience what made this design a classic, 20~30 years ago it would have taken months to build an Ugly Stick from balsa but not now. Then it would take hours of voodoo magic to make the motor run for an oily and noisy 10 minutes. Not anymore! This RC foam plane can be flying in a fraction of the time with minimal building, no tuning, no cleaning!

This electric (PNF) RC plane comes with all electronics pre-installed, all major components assembled for you, and a full complement of tools and accessories are included. The Ugly Stick V2 bolts and screws together in just a few easy steps, multiple access hatches also allow for easy access to all internal electronics.

The V1 was designed and built around the popular 2200mAh 3S LiPo battery, the V2 has slightly more room in the battery compartment and does require extra nose weight so we recommend a Graphene Panther 3000mAh 3S or similar pack (even then it may require some additional ballast in the nose). The V2 also is supplied with an upgraded powerful 3536 900kV electric motor, Durafly 30amp programmable speed controller, and 4 good quality 9g servos. The V2 also sports a new hi-viz blue color scheme that looks stunning on the ground and in the air.

The Durafly Ugly Stick V2 not only looks as good as the original but flies just as well too, perfectly capturing those excellent flight qualities of which the Ugly Stick was renowned. Being the well-mannered RC sports model it is, the Ugly Stick is suitable for both beginner and experienced flyers alike. At the lower end of the speed range, it exhibits no bad stall tendencies and can be flown comfortably at half throttle if desired. However, when you wish to experience its true flying capabilities, open the throttle wide and the Ugly Stick will oblige, performing a full range of sport aerobatic maneuvers with the ease that made the original so popular. Due to the low current draw of the Ugly Stick V2 power system, you can also enjoy longer than average flying times with mixed power use.

With this latest version, you’ll be rewarded with an extremely well balanced and enjoyable sports model in the air and a great conversation piece on the ground, thanks to the ultra-high level of design and authenticity Durafly has achieved with the Ugly Stick Version 2.

A Fun Plane

May 14, 2021

The Ugly Stik is a fun plane to fly with good handling characteristics. I did make a couple of changes to improve the plane. First the screw holding the landing gear where beefed up from the little 5/8" ones it came with. On the scone flight the landing gear came off as the screws pulled out in a grass landing. The second change was to use a 4s battery and change the ESC to 50amp from 30A. That gave the plane a little more jip on the throttle.

Fun little airplane

May 13, 2021

This is one of the most fun airplanes in my hanger. Only problem was a bump in the runway knocked the landing gear off. Replaced the plastic mount with plywood, and life is good.

Flies Great

Apr 18, 2021

Flies great right out of the box but is greatly let down by how badly the landing gear is attached. Broke it on the third flight with a fairly gentle landing. So in goes the ply reinforcement which I shouldn't have to do on what is otherwise a quality model. Otherwise very happy :)

Great Plane

Apr 01, 2021

Nice trainer, Its a fairly easy assembly. I only have one problem with it, the landing gear tears loose on landing almost every time. The gear itself is really stout. but the attachment to the fuselage is awful. Often when it breaks loose, it causes the prop to break. I am sad losing that beautiful wood prop, but got a very good composite one to replace it.

Servo Linkage Rods were too short.

Mar 29, 2021

Two of the servo linkage rods are too short.
By about ½" !
Servos centered, ball linkages on, and the rods aren't long enough to center the surfaces. hmmm, guess mine slipped past servorodqualcontrol.
Plane seems good outside of that, and I have some longer rods coming in the mail.
But annoying still.

Unquestionably the BEST BNF plane I’ve had. This plane does everything I ask of it. Fast flight? Check. Slow flight? Check. Aerobatics? Check. It makes me look better than I am. Can handle wind well. The only change I made was to add a plywood landing gear mount. I would rate this as perfect.

Merveilleux vol, bien tendu

Mar 12, 2021

Mauvais point: Train d'atterrissage. A modifier.

The model is HIGHLY prefabricated and realy needs (almost) only a screwdriver to be completed. The alignement of the parts is perfect and only minor adjusting is needed. The only misfit was a connecting aileron wire that was a little bit too short to reach the corresponding bracket, (Of corse promptly remedied with a small brass tube). I tried already the model on air. It's very easy to fly though responsive and pretty aerobatic. The minor defects : A too soft aluminium landing gear , a very brittle painting, very easy to scrape, the elevator too near the groung and so with the tips prone to be easily scatched. VERY minor clues. The model flies very nicely !!. p.s. also some contrasting paint on the underside of the wings could help to fly. I already put a remedy to all.

Well finished and easy to build

Nov 11, 2020

Plane is well finished but the paint doesn’t appear to hard wearing. Even during the build, rotating it in a foam stand resulted in paint rubbing off.
The tailwheel Allen screw is so small. I thought the kit came with an Allen key but it didn’t, and you can’t fit the tail assembly without it.
The front hatch is also slightly out of alignment which slightly spoils the aesthetics of the model.
Looking forward to flying it when the weather is fine.
