When it comes to possibilities the Frsky TARANIS sets a new standard. FrSky is well known for their frequency hopping ACCST technology, that takes advantage of the entire 2.4GHz band, resulting in excellent range and reliability, they now offer their first full transmitter system.

Frsky takes it one further with the Taranis Plus. How is the Plus different from the normal Taranis? The Plus retains everything the normal Taranis includes plus a higher quality, better contrast LCD display that is adjustable from blue to white, and haptic vibration feedback built in. This means you can be alerted silently or use the existing built in voice or alarm features. There is one item missing, the SWR check of the transmitter antenna is no longer available. You still get the great new sliders, the big low self discharge battery, and all of the other great things you have come to expect from FrSky

The TARANIS mixes the  power of the “OPEN TX” open-source software with an unbelievable ergonomic case with 8 programmable switches, two twist knobs and two easy to get to lateral 'slider' pots, and not to mention the ultra-smooth quad bearing gimbals.

The TARANIS utilizes Voice Alerts from an internal speaker, versus just an annoying beeper. For things like; audible Count down timers, low voltage warnings, landing gear down warnings etc., Just about anything can be programmed, you can even use your own voice. The SD card slot offers unlimited memory options and a USB port for upgrades even a headphone jack.

One of the best features of the TARANIS is its full telemetry capability, as well as RSSI signal strength feedback, there are 3 different programmable failsafe modes and receiver lock, so no more crashes due to selecting the wrong model. If you have stock in other brand receivers or B&F’s, no worries the TARANIS has a JR style RF module slot, so you have the option of other brand modules such as the Orange DSM2/DSMX or Open LRS 433mhz module, or pop in another Frsky module to expand the transmitters capabilities even more with dual RF.

When you put it all together, between FrSky ACCST technology and the power of “OPEN TX” software and community, an ergonomic case with ultra-smooth ball bearing gimbals, a large backlit LCD, and new larger battery pack. You have versatility and power at an unprecedented value.

• RSSI alarms (warns you of reception problems before it becomes an accident)
• 16 channels (more when combined with external module)
• 64 mixers, 9 flight modes
• 16 custom curves with 3-17 points each, 32 logic switches

Great radio for the price

Jul 28, 2019

I upgraded to the Taranis after my old XR9Pro died. Happy to report the Taranis is as easy to use as the XR9Pro was.
Gimbals on the Taranis are smooth and precise and it has plenty of 3 point switches, which are well positioned for easy use.
Easy to set up, but you do need to access the manual online, as it isn’t included in the package. It’s on the HK page but, so no biggie.
However the lack of a battery charger for the supplied battery is an issue. Even though the package says charger supplied, it wasn’t. And HK doesn’t sell a charger to suit the radios charge port, meaning the NIMH battery supplied with the radio must be swapped out for a LIPO radio pack, an extra expense if you don’t already have one. This was the only disappointing aspect of the purchase for me.
Overall a great, easy to use radio with all the features you would want but.

Excellent performer and value for money

May 12, 2019

The Taranis X9D is probably the best performing transmitter available, considering quality, functionality and price. It is my second X9D and it only took a quick look at others available to convince me to stay with the Taranis.
The combination of the Open TX firmware functionality, built-in telemetry, build quality, and price are compelling reasons to buy the Taranis.
I did have one quality issue, and that was the NiMh battery, which was DOA. Hobby King could not replace it, so gave me an immediate credit. I was able to purchase a replacement elsewhere.

Quality Product highly recommended

Dec 28, 2016

I am new to flying Quads and Planes and I accidentally brought this Raido in mode 1 but my cousin who has been flying for years changed the gimbals over to mode 2 then changed the mode in the Taranis on it's software which is already in the Taranis. Now I can fly in mode 2 which I am use to. So in my opinion I highly recommend the Taranis even if you buy it in the wrong mode you can easily change it to the mode you are use to flying with

Disappointing the LCD screen is positioned too high so I cannot see/read the top of display.
HK please improve your quality control it is very obvious to see this fault.
Now I am trying to decide weather to take tx apart and try to fix or a warranty?
Shipping was fast.
