The Douglas C-47 was the miltary transport version of the DC-3 airliner and went by numerous names both official and unofficial including Skytrain, Dakota, and Gooney Bird. It was used in World War II extensively by the allies, and was vitally important during campaigns in Guadalcanal, Burma, and later, the Berlin Airlift. In all, over 10,000 C-47 or license built versions were produced between March 1943 and August 1945.

In addition to being used by American and other allied forces during World War II, since then has seen extensive use by other smaller nations armies. Surplus C-47's entered the civilian market and became quite popular over the years as cargo carriers, small time airlines, and forest fire bombers.

Our model of the C-47 arrives as a fully molded EPO foam airframe, in all bolt together, plug and fly format. As a sport scale model it is a remarkably accurate representation. Since everyone likes options, we have included 3 sets of decals in the box, American, British and Russian decal sets. As the C-47 was so widely used, feel free to model it after your favorite scheme.

The C-47 has a host of features including working retracts, LED wingtip and landing lights, as well as a large removable battery hatch and working flaps. Making take off much easier, we have included counter-rotating propellers. To handle the load of all those servos, lights, plus retracts, we've included an external BEC unit wired into the ESC wire harness.

Flying the C-47 is a treat. Large tail surfaces, a light wing loading, plenty of power, and ample washout all combine to make a docile handling airplane. Fly slow, fly fast, this thing looks great from all angles at any speed. If military colors are not your speed, we offer it in a silver DC-3 military version that has three decal sets included. Really when you think about it, we've made a complete package. Scale looks, excellent handling, color AND decal options, all at a price that is quite affordable. You're probably thinking “but I'm not into scale models” honestly, with what we offer you, you'll want to be into scale models after seeing the HobbyKing C-47.

Was easy to assemble and fly, HOWEVER, for those not familiar with twin-engine A/C, make sure you put some thread-locker on the R/H engine prop shaft and nut and/or make sure you check the R/H engine prop for tightness before each flight...or you may lose the prop nut in flight and most likely crash.....

Had to substitute and re-engineer some hardware to assemble my "Dakota" as half of the "Control Parts" were MISSING. Wing mounts are non-standard. QC tracking checker #8 could have been more attentive to counting the required items for completion.
The props look nice but should be replaced with better one-piece quality.

I think this plane is very cool and think the quality is very good. My only complaint is being grounded due to no spare parts offered. I don't understand why it's so easy to stock and sell the plane and not parts for it.

An unlucky C-47...
Hi, my C-47 arrived, unfortunately, a little bruised in some parts, the canopy does not close properly on the fuselage, it has ben very difficult to put the screws holding the tail, impossible to fix a screw of undercarriage (floating in the bag...) and even impossible to attach the wings: I had to make a change and install through screws 100mm long, with new structure inside the fuselage :-(
Finally, while testing the engines in the laboratory, unfortunately, a plastic bag was sucked from left helix.
So, propeller broken and shaft bent... without making any flight !!
Now, how can I get the necessary spare parts?
Please, help me... I'm a good customer and I would like to continue to be...
Thank you

Roberto

I bought the HobbyKing 1600mm C-47 for myself as a Christmas gift. I paid $287 plus $17 shipping. The kit arrived with good packaging and no shipping damage. The contents looked good and were complete. Paint was even and 3 sets of different countries decals were provided to detail the plane as US, GB or Russian.

Assembly was straightforward. No glue is required. The elevator and tail bolt on and the wing slides together with a shaped plywood spar inserted for strength. After that you need only install the control linkages.

The most diffucult task is figuring out what to do with all the wiring in the wing. The plane has 1 elevator servo, 1 rudder servo, 2 aileron servos, 4 flap servos, 2 navigation lights, two landing lights, two retractable gear, two ESCs and a separate BEC wiring to contend with. The kit comes with wiring harnesses to tie the servos, lights, gear and ESCs together, but it is still a large clump of wires.

The decals are pretty good three part affairs. They are peel and stick, but after applied to the plane the outer plastic is peeled away leaving just the color decals with no clear backing.

I had serious issues with the kit when I managed to burn up 7 servos in the plane to the point of the cases melting. At first it seemd like I just had two bad servos. One aileron servo worked and then stopped and buzzed. One flap servo acted like it didn&#

Sorry to say, But I am not as happy with this plane as some other folks. First problem was the hardware provided by the manufacture. None of the screws worked with the control horns. One of the screws that hold the wing on was striped and the other didn't have a nut attached to the fuselage for the long bolts to hold the wing on. The flaps are a joke. I had to rearrange the servo arms on two of the flap servos to make them have the same throws as the others. After the first flight I glued them shut. They made the plane very unstable when I deployed them. I did have some damage on the fuselage where the control rod came out of the fuselage for the rudder. The landing gear is cheep, Its just a matter of time before it brakes. The instruction manual is a joke. If you had never put a plane together before you would have a problem with this manual. It just gives you pictures, Not how to build it or in any order. Would not recommend this plane to any beginners

Greetings,

WOW! From odering to arrival at my door in 4 days!!

So far the unboxing has provided a C-47 in almost perfect condition. I'll have to agree with the previous review that the only caveat is some over-spray of the OD greem on the cockpit windows. This is a non-issue for me and an easy fix.
This is a LARGE aircraft so plan approrpiately for the space required for the build up and transporting of this beast!
I simply can't wait to get it in the air!!
Kudo's Hobbyking!! If it flies as well as it appears, you've got a winner on your hands!!

I received my C47 today via Fed Ex it was double boxed and in perfect condition. 3 days shipped from the Arkansas warehouse. First impressions. The molding is excellent. Paint looks really good. I do have some worries about the retracts, would have been happier if they would have been metal trunon. I took away one crown for that but we will have to see how they hold up. The decals look very good, however I plan on a 1941 markings as a domestic transport. everything fits well and looks good. I did have some paint overspray on the cockpit windows. I hope this description helps everyone. I am glad I bought the model.
