moonsoon criticaal build info

Feb 09, 2018

Beautiful model but like most could use some early mods
I am not affiliated with the following BUT would very highly recommened the e-books at http://www.shipshaperc.com esspecially the Build compaanion as worth their weight in gold.
ie suggest weight for keel is not even in the Monsson manual and way off in the description.
Other items such as floation is Not covered anywhere but crucial and things like stay keepers, stay replacements etc will save you a ton of grief.
They have aa special deal on for the other books as a library incl sailing etc

Mine doesn't turn that well with good throw on rudder servo, boom fung saddle is week on mast , jib is closer too hull to catch more wind, will change rigging lines to deron, needs a computer radio for throws for sail and rudder

Arrived with broken servo tray, all parts there. The rudder pin is unacceptably loose in its pivot tube (looks like wrong diameter tube used in hull). I will have to bush it somehow. The boom vang is too long. I managed to squeeze 1.4 kg of lead into the keel bulb. Looks great, will see how it performs. The instructions say the keel taper goes to the rear, I think they mean the thinnest section of the keel and not the faring part as my keel will only fit the hull with the straight part at the back.

Keel weight

Jul 15, 2017

Read some reviews regarding keel being to light ,if It helps other monsoon sailboat owners I've made a cast of the plastic keel bulb that came with boat and cast a solid lead one which weight in at 2.8 kg or about 3 kg with keel bolted on .
Took for first sail and sailed awesome in light and heavy winds I love and found the boat easy to put together as well.
Hope that helps others and happy sailing.

Keel position?

Nov 21, 2016

Keel position?
Can anyone confirm the correct position of the Keel:
Straight side to the back and curved side to front or not?!
The manual mentions: (curved taper to the back)
But all the pics I see have the curves side to front!!!
