A really nice, ready-to-fly small-scale model of this iconic full-size MD500 US Coastguard helicopter that is full of outstanding features, these make the MD500 not only look great but makes it fly great as well. The MD500 was developed originally by the Hughes Helicopter Co. as a light utility helicopter for civilian use, but when McDonnell Douglas took over production it quickly became popular with the military, coastguards, and law enforcement agencies.

The outstanding features of the MD500 include a metal 5-blade flybarless rotor head, twin brushless motors, a 6-axis gyro, and a barometric altitude hold with optional optical positioning. This gives the MD500 incredible stability and an amazing amount of power making it perfect for beginners or the more experienced pilots. In more experienced hands it is capable of all the usual more advanced helicopter maneuvers. Other features include a dedicated transmitter with auto take-off and landing, out-of-control protection (which allows the gyro and stability systems to take over at the flick of a switch), 3 flight modes, a low voltage alarm, and a modular battery design with intelligent power management.

This is a great little scale-looking helicopter that is perfect for the beginner due to its advanced aids to help you fly. But it is also very appealing to the more experienced flyers who want a great-looking, maneuverable small helicopter to have some fun with.

Features:
• Ready to fly with its own dedicated 2.4Ghz transmitter, flight battery, and USB charge cable
• One-click auto take-off and landing functions, and barometric altitude hold
• Modular battery with intelligent management system
• 3 flight modes to suit beginners and experienced pilots
• Scale-looking metal 5-blade flybarless rotor head
• Dual brushless motor system
• 6-axis gyro for fast, accurate flying, and hovering stability, perfect for beginners

Surprisingly fun!

Mar 19, 2024

Let me begin by stating that this would be a great starter for someone looking to get into Helis. I was guarded about my expectations as these were relatively new products. I’m glad I took a chance, because I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much fun this is for some relaxed scale flying, even though it’s fixed pitch. It surprisingly holds altitude well, and very much flies as stable as a coaxial heli. 2 things I would suggest you do: 1. Don’t go with the “low” speed setting. Set it at least to “middle” before flying, because low REALLY limits your inputs to the point that you won’t be able to adjust for even the slightest breeze. 2. Be sure to recalibrate the gyros each time you fly. After binding, just pull both sticks down and left and hold there until the tail light stops flashing and you’re set.
