3560-1650 of limited use for EDF

Nov 28, 2016

Ran 6S with a Haoye 7 blade 90mm fan. After only brief periods of WOT the motor temp would continue to rise to unsafe levels. Temp was over 195F with approximately 30 WOT. this was pulling 83amps/1700watts in cold weather with a cold battery. This motor will fry if running 6S and a high blade count fan. It may be OK on 5S but then only good for a very light 90mm jet.

When running a typical 6 blade (wemo midi style) 90mm EDF it only produces less than 1300watts peak at 54amps on 6S. Motor bell was restricted in cooling with its fairing hole so small. Removed fairing for better cooling yet it still reached 130F drawing only about 1250watts for a short period.Only would be good for a very light model on 6S. 7S would likely give better performance.

Used this motor with a ducted prop 180X200. Produced 22N static thrust with 80A using a Rotorstar ESC fed from 5000mAh 4S 30C battery. Nice motor when new with incredible power to weight.

The long thin case is prone to poling so very short life at full power. Poling so severe that one of the magnets was chipped.

Finally did some test on this motor. All on 6s.
full charged 40C 4400mah. EDF unit: flyfly 7-blade, esc low timing, ~85 A, motor got ~160F after 1 min full throttle
new 5000mah 40C at 22.9 V. EDF: flyfly 6-blade, esc high timing, ~65 A. ~1400W. motor got warm but not hot after ~10 sec. No thrust data for either. Would expect ~70A at fully charged 44000mah battery.
Seems decent motor. Will soon put on Freewing F-18 for a flight test.

I put this motor in my Fly Fly F-100 6s400090c flight pack and this motor makes this plane vertical right after takeoff!!
