I had this ESC on a PILOT EXTRA 330SC 35CC and it burned in flames before the 7th flight. It was working smothly, with default settings but during the preflight checks, when I added some throthle it burned, I was lucky it didn't manage to burn the lipos because a colleague had a fire extinguisher in the field.
My setup: SK3 6354 215KV, 10S 5.000 25C, APC 20x8, around less than 52A
Now flying with a used old Sentilon 100A HV without any issues.
Maye I did something worng, maybe a faulty one, who knows...

I have bought 7 of this ESCs for my heavy (88lbs) hybrid quadrocopter project in 2011. I used these to start a hybrid generator DLA112 Hacker A200-8 and spin 4 Hacker Q80 11S F3A main rotors.

The ESC being used as a starter behave well cranking my DLA112 @ 40 amps 10S.

But...
2 ESCs had blasted with wild fire and smoke on the main rotors during an initial spin-up today. Lucky it was not happened in flight.

It is the same ESC like the HobbyWing Platinum 70A-HV, great quality! Mounted on my 600EFL and paired with Align 600MX 510kv. Recommended!

Setup was in a Kyosho Spitfire 90, turnigy 8S (2X4S) 5000mAh and 5065 turnigy motor pulling 49 amps on full.

After about 15 flights it went bang on take off and smoke poured from the plane, thought it was a goner! the ESC just blew itself to bits, fortuantely the battery and motor appeared to have survived. sent the remains to HK and they have given me a full credit. So have ordered another, as there appear to be a number of people that get good results, so hoping I was just unlucky. Not many options for 8S ESCs.

I buy a lot of stuff from HK and usually get great results for great value. However with this unit I was initially pleased on first flight (7 mins). Cool to touch and great responce. But on 2nd take off, ESC caught on fire:( Was using 12s 5000mah and pulling 50A (E-drive 5335/10 BL motor with 3 blade 16X10 prop). Ensuing fire rendered ESC into charcoal and my plane is covered inside with stinking soot with that acrid bad brown smell. Luck of the draw sometimetimes.

Using this ESC with an align 600mx 510kv motor on a 12S 550e 3GX v2 machine, stock timing and PWM. Have over 25 flights on this ESC, so far it has been rock solid...

I don't know if it's only bad luck but this ESC exploded after only 4 battery charge. It was very dangerous because it shoot flames like rocket burst of about 30cm!!

Maybe the good luck is that the heli was hoovering at 30cm from the ground so, apart from smoke and bad smell no other disaster were made (the ESC was in the back of the heli so the sparks goes otside).

The heli was (is) a HB600 with turnigy 600 motor and 8s 5000mAh battery.

All this mess happen after the first minute of very calm hoovering. The timing was 3,5 and PWM 8. Governor mode 1.

Any hints? Really bad luck?

By the way waiting for a replacement
