The full-scale ASW 28 is a Standard Class glider with a fifteen-meter span built of modern fiber-reinforced composites. The manufacturer of the ASW-28 is Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co. The "W" indicates this is designed by the influential and prolific German designer Gerhard Waibel. Serial production started in 2000.

As with all Standard Class sailplanes, the ASW-28 does not have flaps or other lift-enhancing devices. It has tall winglets, a retractable landing gear, and a water ballast system. The structure is a complex composite of carbon, aramid, and polyethylene fiber-reinforced plastic. This permits a light structure with the strength to carry large amounts of water ballast, thus permitting the widest possible range of wing loadings for weak and strong soaring weather.

The Volantex ASW 28 is a sport scale model that does incorporate flaps, unlike its full-scale counterpart. It comes plug and fly so you just need to complete some final assembly, install your battery, receiver, and fly. The airframe is a mix of EPO foam for the wings and tail, with a blow-molded plastic fuselage. This gives a slick finish that is also extremely durable. Great for those less than perfect slope sites. A recent addition to the ASW 28 is a more powerful 4018-1050kV brushless outrunner motor that rockets the ASW 28 to altitude, then when you throttle down, the propeller folds back for extended soaring. Accessing the battery is easy through the canopy with four small snap locks that keeps the canopy secure.

Version 2 comes with lots of extra features. The wings come with two spars in each wing to give extra strength during those tight turns and power-dives and the servos have also been upgraded to a more powerful type. Installing the wings is now easier with a plastic latch for securing the wings. Inside there is now a bigger plywood tray to make it easier to carry FPV cameras, VTx's, or other electronics. Landings are now a lot easier with the inclusion of landing gear. No more scraping the fuselage.

Features:
• Plug and Fly - Just install your own battery, transmitter, and receiver
• Ultra-durable blow-molded plastic fuselage
• EPO foam molded wings and tail
• All servos, including flaps come pre-installed
• Easy removal canopy/battery hatch with pilot figure
• Upgraded 4018-1050kv brushless motor with a folding propeller installed

Specs:
Wingspan: 2540mm
Length: 1132mm
Flying Weight: 1050g
Motor: 4018-1050kv Brushless Outrunner Motor (recently upgraded)
ESC: 30A 2~3S w/BEC
Servo: 9g x 6 (these servos have been upgraded recently to a more powerful type)

Required:
6 Channel Transmitter and Receiver
3S 11.1V 1500mAh LiPo Battery
Foam-safe glue

Please note: Some batches of the ASW 28's may have an ESC label that states rated from 2~4S, this is incorrect, it should have stated 2~3S and 3S is the maximum recommended cell count for this model.

Great Value

Jan 08, 2023

I am very impressed with this plane. It has quality features, works with a wide range of batterie, and is a good flier in calm or breezy weather. I use a gyro in mine, and it provides great stability on gusty days. Hand launching is easy, and landings are good. It helps to practice the landings in different weather conditons and to have a large area in your first flights until you get the feel of it. I like the plastic fuselage and the decals, both of which are a little different that that included with most foam planes. The wings flex but seem strong enough so far. I would not do any power dives at speed on windy days however. This is a glider, not a power plane. Five stars here.

Good deal

Easy assemble. Cg is spot on but to get it right you have to position the battery under the front wing tube on the upper tray. You can put your receiver on the bottom tray where they would actually have your battery

Une qualité exceptionnelle

Oct 29, 2022

Nice flyer, a few minor issues

Sep 14, 2022

I have 3 flights on my ASW28 and they all went well. It is nose heavy so I added weight in the rudder and vertical stabilizer. Found a very light 2700 3s battery and now can start dialing in the CG. I flew with a 1300 3s and a 2200 3s and got 20 + minute flights. Looking forward to a lot more longer flights in the next few weeks. Canopy is very flimsy, landing gear not snug enough, elevator incidence is off by 2mm. However,I WOULD buy again and recommend this plane. HK get spare parts in stock in US.
