The de Havilland Vampire was the RAF's first single engined fighter to enter service. Developed during WW2 and originally called the 'Spider Crab', the aircraft was developed entirely by de Havilland utilizing the companies great knowledge and experience in moulded plywood construction techniques, this feature having first been used with great success in their Mosquito. Thanks to this and the pioneering Goblin jet engine it used, the Vampire was both light, maneuverable and fast. The Vampire first flew on 20 September 1943 with Geoffrey de Havilland Jr himself at the controls and although it arrived too late to see combat during the WW2, the Vampire served with great distinction in front line RAF squadrons up until 1953 and continued in use as a trainer until 1966.

The new Durafly Limited Edition Vampire pays homage to one of those last front line squadrons from 1953, No 112 Squadron based at Bruggen, Germany. The bold 'shark mouth' markings together with the classic green/grey tones of the period make this Durafly favorite even more appealing both on the ground and in the air. Yet each model is entirely unique. With a limited production run of just 500, this is your chance to own a piece of Durafly history, with each model featuring its own individually numbered commemorative plate pre-installed in the model. In addition to this, the Vampire now features higher quality stronger metal trunnion retracts, upgraded ESC, improved accessories and an updated full color, multi lingual instruction manual, reducing assemble time and improving your experience of the Vampire both on the bench and in the air.

Of course, the Ltd Edition Vampire still retains the features that made the original so popular. That's high quality EPO molded parts, beautifully designed waterside decals and a superb paint finish, all wrapped up in our trusted 'Plug n Fly' format. This means the slow speed electronic retracts, 70mm EDF, brushless motor, ESC, UBEC and servos are all pre-installed ready to go. With the Durafly Vampire you'll be flying within hours of opening the box, then you'll see just how impressive the Vampire really is. It has a good rate of climb and all the speed you'd want from a scale EDF of this class, feeling instantly comfortable on the controls thanks largely to its well mannered flight characteristics and power to weight ratio. Combine this with the awesome sound of the EDF, the new aggressive looking Ltd Edition scheme and improvements, and you'll be turning heads once again with a Durafly Vampire.

And that's not all. For every Ltd Vampire sold, Durafly will be donating a portion of the sale to the UK based DeHaviland Vampire Restoration Society. So not only will you own a piece of Durafly history, you'll also actively play a part in keeping these stunning aircraft of great historical importance in the air too.

AS with all the other models from HK the model is great. However, due to experience with the lightweight metal fan I wanted to fit this instead. After a couple of hours of struggle, I still can't get the old fan out. It's not just stuck in, it's designed to never come out until the foam degrades into the environment! This is overkill. I now have to attend a E fly-in at the weekend with the standard fan (OK but not as good as the metal one) and will fail to show off just ow good this model can be. I have mad the same mod wiith my Sea Vixen and it transforms the plane from being merely good to very, very good!

Im afraid I am one of those that thought that the after sales service didnt exist. NOW... well i can only eat my words. Well done Hobbyking Customer Services you get Five Crowns.... Had a few flights on mine now. Flies beautifully, sounds great, surprisingly quick. Retracts are metal upgrade, but still easy for nose wheel to collapse. Had to hot glue back in. Gets off the ground quickly, and flies slow as well. Make sure you set your full throttle position to program the ESC the first time, I didn't & thought it was under powered, but it's not. Powered mine on Zippy 2450 4S, get 5-6min with throttle management. The thing glides like a boss. Pull power off on base leg and glide her all the way in to touch down. Dial in Expo as its real touchy, particularly elevator. Only disappointing thing is the wheels are foam, not rubber, and a little small for flying off grass.

Arrived quickly and all went together well. The new retracts are very welcome, although have had no problems with any of my Vampires U/ units. The usual John Deer EDF unit is present, but somehow adds to the charm of the little vampire even though it sounds like a bag of spanners on a cold morning. Both of mine sound like that, but smooth off nicely on full howl, and i cant be bothered to balance them.Looks very nice in the camo colours, and,as usual, flys extremely nicely.

Great looking model but as other people have said, the motor shaft has so much slop it isn't worth using,so out comes the hammer and chisel to get the unit out. Quality control if any must have been on holiday when these were produced and to save time it would be better to leave it out. Has anyone noticed the nice built in airbrake(if using U/C) on the nose leg housing, surely a nice fairing would have made a better job. All i want to do is fly not start redesigning. Come on Durafly get your act together, you are giving HK a bad name.

My Vamp arrived promptly. there was no glue in the box. There was some crushed bits on the corners of one of the wings. The elevator servo will need to be prized out so i can turn the control arm to centre. I removed the spinner from the fan after watching some videos on it making the unit unbalanced. I cant seem to get the cg with a 4000mah without adding weight. The screws for the control horns that go on the elevators are not long enough. I have lots of spare bits from the ample dead planes laying around, but for someone without the spares this is DEFINITELY NOT A PNF PLANE! I was hoping to do the build last night in the expecting 2-3 hour build. probably still got another 1.5 hours to go. You will also need an adapter for the battery or a soldering iron and some plugs to convert them to your favorites, Not as well done as my other durafly models. Nice looking model once assembled. I will complete the build either tonight or tomorrow and add the flight test. Im not expecting any dramas with the flight. Even with all the bad stuff on this bird, Hobby King is still the best value for money hobby store around.
