The Limited Edition Kingcraft Super Stearman is a beautifully finished and highly detailed scale model of this powerful aerobatic biplane. The Stearman is provided in an almost ready to fly format and with some specific assembly procedures to follow. Because of this, it is recommended for modelers with previous ARF assembly experience. Once built you will be rewarded with a stunning looking airplane that performs just like the full size when used with a 1200~1300W motor and 6S Lipoly battery. The detailing includes a realistic dummy engine, raised panels, authentic instrument panel, scale cockpit with pilot, detailed rigging, and dummy oleo struts, all this adds a touch of ultimate realism. Due to this being a "Limited Edition" there is only a certain number of kits available, so don't delay in acquiring one of these beautiful models to add to your collection.

Kingcraft has faithfully reproduced Susan Dacy's "Big Red" Super Stearman which is fitted with a fire-breathing supercharged 450hp Pratt and Whitney engine, this completely transformed its aerobatic capabilities over the original trainer version. The model is constructed mainly of balsa and plywood which is then finished in a high-quality covering leaving only the decals to be applied. Scale details such as the turtle deck, raised paneling, cowl, wheel pants, etc are made from either fiberglass sheet or fiberglass moldings. A very complete hardware pack is supplied which includes a polished aluminum spinner, main wheels, steerable tailwheel assembly, complete RC linkage set, nuts and bolts, and anything else necessary to complete the model. You will only require, glue, motor, ESC, battery, and RC equipment.

Due to the Stearman having a very short nose, a unique removable fiberglass battery tray has been designed to allow the battery to be installed as far forward as possible. This tray is held in place with a thumbscrew and removes the need for any extra ballast to obtain the correct C of G. To fit the aluminum spinner you will require a brushless motor with a reversed shaft, please see related products for the recommended Propdrive motor.

Features:
• Highly detailed accurate model of the Super Stearman
• Balsa, plywood, and composite construction
• Realistic dummy radial engine
• Airfoil shaped landing gear with dummy oleo struts
• Detailed cockpit with instrument panel and pre-painted pilot
• Unique battery tray to achieve the correct C of G without extra ballast
• Full hardware set included

Superb Srearman!!

Jan 25, 2021

What a lovely model, just completed it and it looks absolutely Superb!,
yes there is a bit of fettling to do, i think you get this with most ARTF models,
the only thing i replaced were the flying wires, as mentioned with other reviewers these
were rusty and rather heavy, but that was all, just superb, get one while you can.

Boing super stearman

Jan 23, 2021

I have just taken delivery of the super Stearman and I can honestly say that for the price it's absolutely brilliant the details, for an arf kit are second to none so far all the parts seem to be there and well made the only small problem I have found is with the tension wires that's is to say they are rusty but that's easy to put right. For anybody thinking of buying this model PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THE VERY FUEW PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO SAY ITS RUBBISH because it's not some parts may need altering slightly but that is all part of this fantastic hobby

Nichts für schwache Nerven!

Jan 16, 2021

Wunderbares Scale-Modell. Der Erstflug erfolgt im Frühjahr.
Gruß Herbert

My kit of the year

Jan 14, 2021

99% of this kit was right. I didn`t have so many of the issues mentioned by other reviewers.
My dislikes were the heavy 2mm mild steel push rod type flying wires which were heavy and very rusty out of the bag. I saved 4oz by ditching those items in favour of crimps, stailess steel shark fishing wire and 2mm couplers. I used the supplied clevises to rig the whole lot together. No problem with that.
The plastic tail wheel cover was a pain. I binned that and laminated some light balsa to the central spine of the fuselage, machined it to shape and covered with matching red HK covering film which I already had in stock. My modification is invisible.
On one of the videos, Stuart Warne mentions that it could be possible to convert this model to nitro power. I`ve done this by sawing off the electric motor box back to the bulkhead and filling it in with plywood. A Dubro 12oz fuel tank fits where on an electric version, the LiPo would have been located. The modification was easy. A SC .91 four stroke engine is now fitted side winder fashion to the front bulkhead and modifications to the cowl to allow the cylinder head to pertrude through the cowl have taken place. Few would know that the IC motor option was not envisaged for this kit.
Overall, the quality of this kit vastly exceeds that of Seagull, VQ, Blackhorse etc where nowhere near as much detail is ever built into such kits. Visually, this HK kit passes similar type competitors kits by a head and shoulders.
Had HK supplied more appropriate flying wires and the tail wheel cowl, I`d have given the kit 100%. Those two issues pull the score back a bit so perhaps 98% would not be unfair.
Visually the model is a real belter. Finished in HK super shiney covering, this model really pops. The engine cowl and plastic parts of the kit together with the screw detail add to a quality feel. I don`t know of any model currently on the market that has achieved such a good visual effect.
My model tips the scales at 8.42Lb with the ASP.91 and Dubro fuel tank fitted in place of an electrical power set up. C of G balance was easily achieve by placing a 2600NiMh battery under the fuel tank just forward of the lower wing leading edge. No lead ballast has been fitted.
As previously said, this model gets my "Kit of the year" award...Normally I build an ARTF kit a month so I have some experience of kit building to draw my opinion from.
My hope is that HK will quickly produce another charismatic model to the same level as this Stearman. Perhaps a Stampe or a Tiger Moth. My money would be ready for that!
Nice one HK. Well done.

Well worth the effort

Jan 04, 2021

One of my favorites. Most of the build is done only requiring minor assembly of the control surfaces and a whole lot of fiddly stuff to finish the job. Such as aluminum brackets for the wing struts and cabling. Lots of screws and nuts to fasten those struts ( a hex driver and mini wrench 5.5mm gets the job done). Some resizing of the forward struts (Dremel with metal cutting disk and a drill makes the job easy) and the airelon strut needs to be shortened as well. The tail wheel fairing was tricky for me and required a lot of tweaking. Also, those tiny brass screws require a mini drill bit (I purchased some from Harbor freight).

It's a great model to have, but previous experience does help.

Dec 30, 2020

I read reviews with a great deal interest when I'm purchasing almost anything, but in particular RC aircraft and associated products. My Stearman arrived the day two of the reviews were posted, and had I had read these before I'd ordered, then I probably wouldn't have the Stearman as part of my collection.
I'd already watched videos of the unboxing, assembly, and the maiden flights of the Super Stearman, so I was not expecting any surprises as all had mentioned that some fettling would have to be done, but that would have been expected when assembling a module with so many parts being fitted. I've spent the last 53 years of my working life as a cabinet maker and a large scale airplane builder, so all of the points being outlined were for me to have been expected. Assembling the Super Stearman does means it helps to have previous experience, but none of the points being raised were not unexpected and were not difficult to overcome at all. I like the quality and I've had nothing I've not found easy to overcome.
I'm raising this in what is intended to be as a positive for anybody thinking about purchasing the Super Spearman that may have been put off by some of the reviews posted so far. This is a very well detailed model which with care in assembly leaves you with a great looking model of this classic airplane. Yes it does need a degree of adjustment of some of the control parts, but no more than I'd expect from most RTF models of this type. If you've no previous experience of model building then do think twice about buying this Stearman. I love it and have no regrets in buying it whatsoever.
I do agree though it should have assembly instructions included as a lot to download, and they are required to help locate parts easily.

Perfect Stearman 5 stars

Dec 19, 2020

Absolutely perfect Stearman and the scale details are second to none. Easily the best looking production Stearman on the market in a great size. I couldn’t be more pleased. Keep producing highly detailed quality limited edition balsa models of this caliber and I’ll be ready to buy. Zero disappointments.

Avoid at all costs

Dec 14, 2020

This plane is the biggest piece of crap on the market today, nothing fits. Canopy is misaligned, clevices don't fit around control horns and snap, wing struts are wrong lengths. spinner doesn't fit recommended prop. everything about this plane is crap, don't buy it. you have been warned
