Quanum have raised the bar of expectations and real value with the release of their PRO series of multirotor frames. By bringing top quality materials, manufacturing and design to pro-spec frames, Quanum are ready to take on the big boys.

The Quanum 680UC stands for its 680mm wheelbase and UC for umbrella carbon. Umbrella because of the way the arms fold, this unique design allows for the frame to fit into a back pack verses the alternative of folding a few arms horizontally, but still needing to deal with 700mm of length. The carbon is noted because of its all carbon and CNC aluminum construction, no plastic in this airframe. Quanum is using top Quality wrapped carbon not extruded like so many others, and have developed matched accessory’s to maximize the frames use. This is what makes it a PRO in the Quanum line-up.

The Upper center frame and arms quickly detach from the lower subassembly and landing gear, allowing for a wide range of optional objective driven platforms to easily be swapped out with 4 quick thumb screws. The upper platform is a standalone Hexa-copter housing the FC, esc, motors and the arms quickly can fold downward for an unbelievably small and easy to transport assembly. The subassembly houses the accessory rail, battery platform and 18mm carbon tube tall landing gear. The accessory rail allows for the CG and the camera to be placed in the optimal locations for maximizing a prop free view angle and CG flight stability.

The CNC aluminum work is top quality and design to optimize Aluminums strength and weight. All connections points are CNC aluminum, the rotating blocks for the folding arms and the motor/ESC mounts. The motor mounts support an integrated esc mounting with contact cooling and has provisions for a wide range of motor mounting options as well as Y6 configuration.

One of the best features of the 680UC is the support and accessory available. The 680UC has full parts support and direct fit optional features like retractable landing skids for a 360 deg camera view. The Workmanship, portability, broad utilitarian use and full support make the new Quanum 680UC Pro a clear benchmark for the 600 class.

Features:
• Full Carbon and CNC aluminum construction
• Umbrella style folding for maximum portability
• Main and sub assembly for portability and versatility
• Host of direct fit Option parts
• Full parts support
• Innovative design making for one of the lightest yet strongest 600 class Multirotors
• Y 6 configurable

Excellent Frame!!

Apr 11, 2017

Very well made!!

There is NO plastic anywhere on this... everything is either carbon fiver or aluminum. The frame and folding mechanism is very functional as well.
Everything goes together very smoothly. Most of the screws are of M2.5 thread, and go into tapped aluminum pieces. Make sure to use loctite on these.

Overall a great bang for your buck, and it looks like a professional level rig!!

This is my first build. The instructions were very good and did not take a lot of time to build.

This is my first build. The instructions were very good and did not take a lot of time to build.
It took a while to spec out the motor and ESCs to build the Hex. I had to contact HK to determine the items used in the videos. I installed a NAZA V2 controller and the design worked very well.

The only one minor problem I found is I had to be very careful on motor alignment because of the tolerance in the bolt holes. The out of alignment resulted in drift of the Hex. I adjusted the motor rotation and the drift was eliminated. This took about 20 minutes to correct because I was checking alignment during flight.

The retracting landing gear can take a lot of drop and still survive!

With no camera the battery had to be mounted directly under the center to balance the Hex.

The best modification to the design was to add spacers on the hinge bolt for the motor arms. This was installed between the hinge ears at this location. This prevents bending of these ears.

Very nice but a bit more flexible battery mounting option would be good.

This is a pretty good quality kit. The only reason I rate it 3 is that some parts in the kit were wrong and dealing with HK customer service is tedious at best. There are small platforms in the kit for the ESCs to mount on that are on hex standoffs (page 3 of manual). The bag of hardware(A0013) has the standoffs and the screws. I turns out that the screws are M2.5 but the standoffs are M3. This means you either need 24 M3 screws or 12 M2.5 standoffs to assemble the kit. HK customer service wouldn't process the RMA without a video showing that an M2.5 screw doesn't work in an M3 hole. Once they had the video they said they don't have parts so either buy them yourself or send the kit back. It took yet another chat session to finally get them to send me a $2 bag of M3 screws since they don't have M2.5 standoffs. They try, and they do respond but you have to keep at it to get anywhere with them.

This is the coolest frame if you want a large drone, the way the arms fold down protect my gimbal and GoPro during transport. The parts are all very well made and seems to me this frame should cost a lot more for this level of quality.

I set mine up with the Multistar 268kv motors and 20A HV AfroESCs to run on 8S, all controlled by a Pixhawk.
Without a payload I get flight times of 20 minutes with 2 4S 5000mah 25C Turnigy batteries in series until they are discharged to 3.66V per cell... I think that gives a nice safe margin, and should provide 12-15 minutes of flight time with a DYS gimbal and a sony a6000 under it.

Now about that kit, I do like the quality of the carbon seems strong. I do not like the folding mechanism, and have decided not to fold this frame at all, hence the 1 star deduction. Also the frame has limited space inside it after installing the escs and a power distribution board there is little to no space left in between the carbon sheets, which is a shame as the FC would have been neatly tucked away in there...
I have not tested the retractable gears, but can tell that I should order some spare carbon tubes for the landing gear, as they seem a little thin to me will probably easily break on a rough landing.
